At least 15 people, including 8 children, were killed in a tragic road accident in Uttar Pradesh’s Kasganj district on Saturday.

The victims, mostly women and children, were travelling in a tractor-trolley to take a holy dip in River Ganga on the occasion of Magh Purnima when the vehicle overturned and fell into a pond filled with muddy water.

Tractor-Trolley Veers Off Road To Avoid Collision

According to IG Aligarh Range Shalabh Mathur, the tractor driver lost control of the vehicle while trying to avoid collision with a car on the road, leading to the accident.

Survivors Rushed To Hospital; Search Operations Underway

While the survivors have been admitted to the district hospital in critical conditions, search operations are still underway at the accident site which comes under Patiali Police station limits.

CM Yogi Announces ₹2 Lakh Compensation For Kin of Deceased

Expressing grief over the deaths, UP CM Yogi Adityanath has announced an ex-gratia of ₹2 lakh for next of kin of those killed and ₹50,000 for the injured.

The CM has also directed district officials to ensure prompt treatment of the injured and immediate assistance at the accident site through swift mobilization of resources.

The heart-wrenching incident has left many families devastated ahead of the Magh Mela celebrations in the state. Further investigation is underway.
