In a concerning development, a 22-year-old Kerala girl was stabbed to death by her batchmate in a love affair gone wrong incident is being reported. The 22-year-old girl was stabbed by her male batchmate at St. Thomas College in Kottyam district’s Pala. Reportedly, the accused attacked his batchmate when she was done giving her supplementary exam at college.
The news comes after a girl engineering student was stabbed as many as 6 times in Guntur district on the morning of Independence Day, 2021.

Known and lauded as God’s own country, Kerala is also one of the major contributors in crimes against women in India.
According to National Crime Record Bureau’s report, Kerala trails behind just Rajasthan with second highest rapes reported (15.9 per lakh population).
However, Kerala police reports that year 2020 and 2021 reported a significant drop in crimes against women. In 2020, 12,659 crimes were reported whereas in 2021, 8074 crimes have been reported as of yet.
Keep in mind that these are only the cases have been reported, and there are several cases which don’t see the light of the day and are buried under the rug.

The Facts of the Matter
On Friday, Kerala was rocked and shocked by a crime where a 22-year-old girl was stabbed to death by her male batchmate. According to the police the accused attacked the girl at the St Thomas College, Kottyam, Kerala.
On Friday morning, the girl had gone to the institute to give her supplementary exam. After completing the exam, she stepped out of the college where she was attacked with a blade by the accused Abhishek Baiju.

Accused Sat Calmly After Stabbing Batchmate, Police Seized Paper Cutter
Reportedly, the accused didn’t try to run away or evade the authorities. He just wiped his hands off the blood of his batchmate and sat down calmly. Later, the police rushed to the location and arrested the man. A paper cutter like weapon was seized by the man.
Meanwhile, after she was stabbed, she was rushed by her fellow batchmates to a nearest hospital. However, to their dismay and sorrow, she succumbed to the injuries. The entire ordeal was witnessed by the security-guard who immediately called the principal.
“Accused and Victim Were Having Verbal Spat” Security Guard
According to the institute’s security-guard, the accused and the victim had a verbal altercation at the parking inside the college premises. In a sudden movement, the man overpowered her and pushed her to the ground. The guard claimed that he didn’t see the weapon, but immediately saw blood spilling from the victim.
It was later identified that both the accused and victims were the final year students of vocational bachelor’s degree course in food processing technology. The accused belonged to Koothattukulam while the victim belonged to Thalayolaparambu.

Attack Was Planned, Locals Claim Love Gone Wrong Incident
Reportedly, the attack was a planned one in a love gone wrong situation. Local reports claim that the victim had allegedly turned down the romantic advances accused had made. Meanwhile, a Times of India claimed that the victim and accused were in a relationship.
21-Year-Old Kerala Girl Was Stabbed by Stalker in June
Earlier in June, a 21-year-old girl was stabbed to death in Kerala by her alleged stalker. Reportedly, the victim belonged to Kerala’s Elanad and was stabbed multiple times at her residence. The 21-year-old accused was reportedly a stalker of the accused and had also burnt down a shop owned by the victim’s father earlier.
The accused’s 13-year-old sister was also gravely injured as she tried to block the attack and defend her sister.
