In a development sure to put a smile on our reader’s faces, a 5th class student wrote a heartwarming letter to CJI NV Ramana. To the letter, the CJI replied with a signed copy of constitution and a few words. In the letter, the Kerala based student appreciated the Supreme Court’s work around COVID-19 and said how she was proud of the honourable court and honourable CJI.
Background
While it is said that children are the true backbone of a nation, certain instances reaffirms that notion. Earlier last week, a 6-year-old Jammu & Kashmir student sent out an adorable appeal to the Prime Minister, complaining how the students her age are overburdened with homework. Not only did this action win the hearts of netizens, but the L-G of J&K took heed to the appeal and claimed that he directed school education department to come up with a policy change.

Details
While India is fighting tooth and nail with the now receding second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, Lidwina Joseph, a 5th standard student from Kerala wrote a heartwarming letter to the recently appointed Chief Justice of India N.V. Ramana.
In her letter she hailed him and the Supreme Court for its effective intervention due to which oxygen supply and medicines were appropriately distributed. Further, she also enclosed a drawing which depicted a judge sitting in the Supreme Court hammering down the COVID-19 with the portrait of Mahatma Gandhi in the background.

“Much worried about deaths. Court intervened effectively”
In her letter, Joseph wrote how she was distressed about the deaths in the national capital along with other states due to COVID-19. She then said how she read from newspaper that the Supreme Court intervened and helped the nation.
“I was much worried about the deaths in Delhi and other parts of the country due to Corona. From the newspaper I understood that your honourable court has intervened effectively at the sufferings and death of ordinary people in the fight against Covid-19,”
-Joseph’s letter read.
“I am happy and proud of honourable court”
The letter further said-
“I am happy and feel proud that your honourable court has moved orders for supply of oxygen and saved many lives. I understood your honourable court has initiated effective steps in bringing down Covid-19 and the death rate in our country especially in Delhi. I thank you, your Honour for this. Now I feel very proud and happy…”

Lucky 5th Class Girl gets reply from CJI
Little did Lidwina Joseph know that she would not only get a response from the Indian Chief Justice of her letter, but would also receive an appropriate and timely gift. Replying to Joseph’s letter, the CJI sent a letter which said-
“I have received your beautiful letter along with a heart-warming illustration of the Judge at work. I am really impressed with the way you kept track of happenings in the country and the concern that you have displayed for the well-being of people in the wake of the pandemic.”
The CJI further wrote-
I am sure you will grow-up into an alert, informed and responsible citizen who will contribute immensely towards nation building.”
“With best wishes and blessings for your all-round success,” he further added.

Supreme Court’s and its interventions
In the last couple of months, the apex court has taken Suo moto cognizance of several cases related to the mismanagement by Centre and States in the handling of the pandemic. The Court made rulings on vaccine supply, oxygen and essential drug supply, management of the vaccination drive, the power of lockdown implementation and more.
Recently the Supreme Court sought clarity from the Centre on its vaccination efforts and plans. In its 32-page-order, the apex court said how the Centre’s vaccine policy was “arbitrary and irrational”.
