In a big update of another Bollywood marriage falling off, actor Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao announced divorce after 15-years of marriage. The couple also claimed that they will co-parent Azad, their son. The actor-producer couple also claimed that they will continue to collaborate on the projects that they feel passionate towards.

On July 3, Saturday, Aamir Khan aka Mr. Perfectionist of the Bollywood Industry and his producer-collaborator wife announced a divorce. The couple’s statement announcing their separation was crisp, and precise.

“In these 15 beautiful years together, we have shared a lifetime of experiences, joy and laughter, and our relationship has only grown in trust, respect and love.”
The couple’s statement further read-
“Now we would like to begin a new chapter in our lives – no longer as husband and wife, but as co-parents and family for each other.”

Khan and Rao had unofficially separated ‘some time ago’
Moreover, the statement also claimed that the couple had unofficially separated a while back and they now feel comfortable to officially go on the route of separation. The Khan-Rao divorce statement also reiterated on the value of their parenting and claimed that the couple will nurture and raise their son Azad together.
“We began a planned separation some time ago, and now feel comfortable to formalise this arrangement, of living separately yet sharing our lives the way an extended family does. We remain devoted parents to our son Azad, who we will nurture and raise together,”

“Will continue on films, Paani Foundation and other projects”
The couple’s divorce announcement statement went into details about the couple’s collaborative partnership and the couple in its statement thanked their family members without whom, they claimed, they would not have felt secure into taking the decision to call it quits.

“We will also continue to work as collaborators on films, Paani Foundation, and other projects that we feel passionate about. A big thank you to our families and friends for their constant support and understanding about this evolution in our relationship, and without whom we would not have been so secure in taking this leap. We request our well wishers for good wishes and blessings, and hope that – like us – you will see this divorce not as an end, but as the start of a new journey,”

The Aamir Khan – Kiran Rao Love Story

The now-officially-divorced couple met during the filming of Ashutosh Gowarikar’s Lagaan which completed 20-years recently. Kiran was an AD in the film. In one of his interviews, Aamir had claimed that their relationship hadn’t blossomed yet and they two “were not even great friends”.
After that, Khan and Rao met again after the former’s divorce in 2002. Aamir in one of his interviews also said that after his divorce, he had received a call from Rao and they both had a good conversation and he felt “happy” after the conversation.
After his traumatic first divorce, Khan and Rao started dating and even lived together for more than a year. Khan, back then had claimed-
“can never imagine my life without Kiran as my partner. I feel very blessed and I feel very grateful for it.”
In 2005, the couple got married. Further, they also welcomed their son Azad through a surrogate back in 2011.
