Bihar thieves are at it again! After stealing an entire bridge, multiple mobile towers and a train engine, now thieves in the state have stolen a 2-km railway track in Madhubani district under Samastipur railway division. The incident may sound bizarre to many. But considering how thieves have managed to steal parts of roads, bridges and mobile towers in the state, the act of stealing a railway track may seem at par with the previous mischief.
The matter came to the fore after an FIR was registered at the Darbhanga Railway Protection Force post. Following the discovery, the railway authorities suspended two persons, including an assistant sub-inspector, for their alleged negligence to curb the unique theft.
Interestingly enough, the theft took place before January 24, 2023. However, it remained unnoticed and unreported for several days, before it caught the attention of the senior officers. Action was initiated against personnel, identified as ASI Mukesh Kumar Singh and outpost in-charge, along with the detainment of father-son duo Anil and Rahul Kumar.
According to reports, the railway track was part of scraps that were to be auctioned. Soon enough, officials found out that the 2 km railway track had already been sold without a tender floated, thanks to complicity of railway department members.

Such thefts are often committed where miscreants can steal items in rural areas, dismantle them for scrap metal, and then sell them. The most recent theft of railway track was reported near Lohat sugar mill that with Pandaul railway station under Samastipur railway division. The theft took place after the Lohat mill had been abandoned after its closure a few years ago.
Department Personnel Involved in Theft
According to reports, the theft took place way before January 24, 2023. After being unnoticed for a few days, some senior officials in the railway department noticed the theft, and two Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel were suspended. Reportedly, the theft took place in collusion with the RPF officers.
Railway officials in the area discovered that the 2 km stolen railway track had been sold without a competitive tender being floated. The authorities are investigating the matter, suspecting that the track was sold with complicity of railway department officials.
