A parrot’s testimony landed a man accused of murder in jail after 9 long years, yes, you read that right. In a case that sounds like it’s straight out of a detective novel, a pet parrot played a key role in solving a murder in Agra, Uttar Pradesh.

Neelam Sharma, the wife of a prominent newspaper editor, was found dead in her own home, along with her pet dog, in 2014. The police had no leads until the victim’s husband, Vijay Sharma, realized that his pet parrot had been repeating the name of his nephew, Ashu.

The bird’s vocalization was so insistent that it raised the suspicion of Vijay Sharma, who had the police investigate Ashu. Ashu eventually confessed to killing Neelam with the help of his friend, Ronnie Massey, in a botched robbery attempt.

After nine long years, both the accused were recently sentenced to life imprisonment. It was later revealed that Ashu had been a frequent visitor to the Sharma household and had been financially supported by Vijay in the past.

He knew the layout of the house and where valuables were kept, making it easier for him to carry out the crime. The parrot’s testimony may not have been admissible in court, but it was still a crucial factor in cracking the case.
