“I expect Akhilesh Yadav to step forward for his narcotics test,” Shukla said, adding that individuals chanting “Zindabad” slogans in glorification of Jinnah and storing Jinnah’s beliefs and ideas have no place in this country.

Akhilesh Yadav’s statement on Pakistan’s founder provoked a massive political storm, with the BJP leadership and AIMIM head Asaduddin Owaisi criticizing the Samajwadi Party chief months before the UP polls.

Yadav had stated on October 31:

“Sardar Patel, Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, and (Muhammad Ali) Jinnah were all barristers who attended the same law school. They assisted (India’s) independence and never gave up in the face of adversity.”

As the controversy over the Samajwadi Party’s (SP) leader’s statements heated, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, without mentioning Yadav, called the statements “disgraceful and condemnable” and warned people about political parties that compared Sardar Patel with Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
