An Aligarh Muslim University professor involved Lord Brahma while giving references about rape. After public outcry, the university issued a letter of apology for hurting the religious sentiments of his students. The professor in question has been identified as Dr. Jitendra Kumar who belongs to the Faculty of Medicine.

Dr. Kumar was reportedly giving a presentation about rape and the presentation included ‘mythical references’ to the topic. Following the incident, the AMU issued a show cause notice to Dr. Kumar and has been asked to submit his reply to the show-cause notice in 24 hours. The AMU administration also “strongly condemned” the presentation, visuals of which are currently making rounds of Twitter. Further, a two-person committee has been formed to probe into the matter.

It should be noted that this is the second major controversy involving a renowned university and religious figures. Earlier in February, a Banaras Hindu University professor received flak from his students for putting his face over the image of Hindu religious figure Ram. The BHU administration was noted for its long-standing silence regarding the matter.

Professor Submits “Unconditional Apology’, Committee Formed

Meanwhile, Dr. Jitendra also submitted an “unconditional apology” regarding the matter. An India Today report quoted him saying, “The reference was only to highlight that rape has been part of society since long, which I considered to be an inadvertent mistake on my part.”

Reportedly the university has also set up a two-person inquiry committee on the recommendation of the Professor Rakesh Bhargva, Dean Faculty of Medicine. The committee will conduct a probe in the matter and will ensure steps be taken to prevent such incident to occur in future.

Another Controversy Emerged in Banaras Hindu University Earlier

Earlier this year, a Banaras Hindu University professor also stirred controversy when he morphed his picture on the painting of Hindu religious figure Ram and further morphed his wife’s face on Goddess Sita. The incident was brought to light when the painting was part of an exhibition of visual arts that was organizaed at the BHU.

The professor in question was Amresh Kumar, who further justified his actions by saying that he and his wife are ardent devotees of Lord Ram.
