An Odisha man recently married a transwoman with the consent of his first wife and in a TOI report, was quoted saying, “All three of us are happy”. Epitomizing “love has no limits”, the first wife of the man not only permitted her husband to get married to a transwoman he was in love with, but also approved of her living with them under the same roof.
According to reports, a 32-year-old man, who chose to remain anonymous, is a father of a 2-year-old son. The 32-year-old man was in love with a transwoman for the last one year. Like all matters of heart, the man’s love was soon discovered by his wife who not only accepted the hard-to-accept truth, but also agreed to accept her husband’s union with the transwoman.
Although there is no legal sanction for a man to marry a transwoman, the ‘marriage’ between the couple will surely be looked by members of the LGBTQ community as a progressive step. The couple’s union was formalized at the temple in the presence of trans-community members and those who were close to the couple.
Meanwhile, as there are no legal sanctions regarding the union, the relationship between the man will be considered an extra-marital affair in the eyes of the law.
The Facts of the Matter
A wife finds out about his man’s secret love for another person. The situation is doubly complicated as her husband is in love with a transwoman.
While this may sound like a tragic dramedy written for an OTT platform, a incident like this was reported from Odisha. Unlike most people, who would’ve had an objected to their partner wanting to be with another person, the Odisha man’s wife approved of his love and further allowed him to ‘marry’ the transwoman he was in love with.
Odisha Man Father of 2-Yr-Old Son
According to reports, the 32-year-old man in question is the father of a 2-year-old son. The man had been in love with a transwoman for the last one year. Like all matters of heart, the man’s secret desire for his love was discovered by his wife.
However, the wife not only accepted the shocking reality, but also agreed to her husband ‘marrying’ the transwoman, and letting her live with them under the same roof. With the wife’s approval, the ‘marriage’ was recently formalized at a temple where members of the trans community were present.
According to a TOI report, the event was organized by Sebakari Kinnar Mahasangha president Kamini who along with other members of the trans community blessed the newlyweds. In her interview to TOI, Kamini mentioned that they kept the police up to date with the unfolding events in writing. However, the police kept their distance, claiming they had little to do with the ordeal.
No Legal Sanctions Regarding The Marriage
As per the law of the land, a second marriage without dissolving the first marriage will be considered an extramarital affair in the eyes of the law. Inspector Gangadher Meher was quoted in a TOI report saying, “If a complaint regarding any such event (transgender marriage) is made by any aggrieved party, then we will proceed as per law.”
However, the newlyweds are happy and optimistic about their future. The 32-year-old man who got ‘married’ was quoted in the TOI report saying, “All three of us are happy and wish to remain that way”.
