Lieutenant Colonel Sripada Sriram of the strategic Strikers Division One Corps from the Indian Army has become the fastest man to cycle from Leh to Manali. On 26th September 2021, he has set a world record by covering a distance of 472 km in just 34 hours and 54 minutes. Lieutenant Colonel Sripada Sriram has made the nation proud by setting a new Guinness World Record for ‘Fastest Solo Cycling (Men)’.
Details
As per a defense spokesman statement, Lt Col Sripada Sriram started pedaling from Leh after being flagged off by Brig R K Thakur. The date was the 25th of September at 4 in the early morning of Saturday. He covered a total distance of 472 kilometers with a total elevation gain of 8000 meters approximately. The Lieutenant on his journey crossed five major passes even in tough weather conditions. After 34 hours and 54 minutes, he reached his destination, Manali in Himachal Pradesh on 26th September, Sunday in the afternoon.

Breaking the Previous Records
Lt Col Sripada Sriram with his achievement broke the previous Guinness World Record for ‘Fastest Solo Cycling (men)’ from Leh to Manali. Earlier this record was in the name of Indian Army’s Lieutenant Colonel Bharat Pannu. In the previous year on 10th October 2020, Bharat Pannu completed this distance of 342 km from Leh to Manali in 35 hours and 25 minutes as per the army officials. However, this year Sripada Sriram broke Pannu’s record by 31 minutes.
Celebrations of ‘Swarnim Vijay Varsh’
This event of setting a World record by Sriram was a part of the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of ‘Swarnim Vijay Varsh’ by the Indian Army. This day is celebrated for the victory achieved by India in the 1971 war against Pakistan. This day also marked the occasion of 195th Gunners’ Day.
