In a gesture of appreciation, Mahindra Group chairman Anand Mahindra gifted the new Mahindra THAR SUV to Shardul Thakur, T Natarajan, Shubman Gill, Navdeep Saini and Washington Sundar, as he had promised earlier. The Mumbai-based business conglomerate is not just a mighty entrepreneur, but also a big cricket fan. He recently had taken to Twitter after Indian team defeated Australia 2-1 and retained the Border Gavaskar Trophy and congratulated the Indian team.

To understand the promise made by Mr. Mahindra, we have to step into the time machine and go back to January, 2021, when India defeated Australia 2-1. The victory was a special one because the main players from the squad had succumbed to the injury and thus many debutants were called in. These debutants played to their might and scripted history by defeating Australia in Australia with a margin of 2-1.

Anand Mahindra had then gone to Twitter and had lauded the debutants. Moreover, as a sign of appreciation shown by these new players. Mr. Mahindra had promised to gift them an all-new Mahindra THAR SUV, at his own expense.

Mr. Mahindra had taken to Twitter to make the announcement and wrote, “Six young men made their debuts in the recent historic series #INDvAUS (Shardul’s 1 earlier appearance was short-lived due to injury) They’ve made it possible for future generations of youth in India to dream & Explore the Impossible.”

“There’s are true ‘Rise’ stories; overcoming daunting odds in the pursuit of excellence. They serve as an inspiration in all areas of life. It gives me great personal pleasure to gift each of these debutants an All-New THAR SUV on my own account—at no expense to the company,” he said in another tweet.

Staying true to his word, Mr. Mahindra gave Shardul Thakur, T Natarajan, Washington Sundar and other forementioned players the car. On receiving the car, T Natarajan, who was recently seen bowling a nerve-wrecking final over against England in the last T20, took to Twitter. He expressed gratitude towards Mr. Mahindra and as a return gift, also gifted him a signed jersey from the Gabba test.

Natarajan in his tweet wrote, “Playing cricket for India is the biggest privilege of my life. My #Rise has been on an unusual path. Along the way, the love and affection, I have received have overwhelmed me. The support and encouragement from wonderful people, help me find ways to explore the impossible.”

“As I drive the beautiful @Mahindra_Thar home today, I feel immense gratitude towards Shri @anandmahindra for recognizing my journey & for his appreciation. I trust sir, that given your love for cricket, you will find this signed shirt of mine from the #Gabba Test, meaningful,” he wrote in another tweet.

Mr. Mahindra took no time to express his gratitude towards his return gift and thanked Natarajan.

If we talk about the Tamil Nadu based left-arm pacer Natarajan, he seems to be in one of the best playing phases of his cricket career. In IPL 2020, which was held in the UAE, the RCB player impressed his teams and dominated the oppositions by his lethal yorkers. After he was called for service to Australia due to injury woes of Varun Chakravarthy, he converted his lucky break successfully. The 29-year-old pacer impressed his team in his first ODI and was held back by the team as a net bowler for the Test series that was about to follow.

Natarajan finally got the opportunity to bowl his 2nd Test over at the historic Gabba match. The match went into the history books as India was able to turn the game around and won the series by winning the match. Natarajan ended up picking up the wickets of Marnus Labuschagne and Matthew Wade. He was given the support from the other end by Siraj, Thakur and Navdeep Saini, 3 players who had played only a few Test games before that.

Following his impressive play in the India’s Tour of Australia, T Natarajan was also included in the squad in the T20 and ODI series against England that was recently played in India. However, this time Natarajan had an underwhelming season. But the fast-bowler once again proved his mettle in the final over in the last T20 against the visitors. The pacer restored his famous yorkers against a rampaging Sam Curran when the England players only needed 14 runs to win. Natrajan ended up conceding only 6 runs and helped India defeat England by 7 runs.

Meanwhile, Shardul Thakur, one of the architects in India’s victory against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar trophy also received his promised THAR and took to Twitter to share the news.
