The 2023n Filmfare Awards were celebrated with customary grandeur, with Alia Bhatt starrer Gangubai Kathiawadi taking the most number of wins. Held on the 27th of April 2023 at the Jio World Conventional Centre in Mumbai, the glitzy affair was graced by the crème de la crème of the entertainment industry.

Salman Khan, one of Bollywood’s biggest names, was the evening’s first-time host, sharing the stage with the charismatic duo of Ayushmann Khurrana and Maniesh Paul. Together, they held the audience captive with their wit and charm, setting the tone for the festivities that were to follow.

The evening was also graced by some incredible performances by Vicky Kaushal, Tiger Shroff, Janhvi Kapoor, Govinda, and Jacqueline Fernandez.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus, Gangubai Kathiawadi, emerged as the biggest winner of the night, bagging an incredible 10 awards, including the most coveted ones – Best Film, Best Director for Bhansali, and Best Actress for Alia Bhatt.

The Critics’ category saw some remarkable talent being acknowledged, with the versatile Tabu and the talented Bhumi Pednekar sharing the award for Best Actress (Critics) for their outstanding performances in Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 and Badhaai Do, respectively. The award for Best Actor (Critics) was won by the seasoned actor, Sanjay Mishra, for his power-packed portrayal in Vadh.

The Facts of the Matter

The Filmfare Awards have been an integral part of the Indian film industry’s legacy, with a rich history spanning over six decades. Since its inception in 1954, the awards have been a celebration of excellence in Indian cinema, recognizing and honoring the most outstanding works and personalities in the industry.

Recently, the who’s who of the industries gathered under the same roof, for the recognition of the biggest name and impact makers of the industry that emerged in 2022. The ceremony for the 68th Filmfare Awards was held at the io World Conventional Centre, and saw the likes of Salman Khan, Vicky Kaushal, and many many others take to the stage and enthrall the audience.

Gangubai Kathiawadi wins Most Awards

Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s critically acclaimed Gangubai Kathiawadi took home some of the biggest awards for the night. This included the Best Film, Best Director, and Best Actress. Meanwhile, Badhai Do followed suit. The queer-comedy starring Anil Kapoor won Best Actor for Rajkumar Rao, and Best Actress (Critics) for Bhumi Pednekar.

Debutants Shine Bright Among Veterans

At the 68th Filmfare Awards, debutants shone bright thanks to their performances in critically acclaimed films that released earlier last year. This included Ankush Gedam who played the character of Ankush Masram aka Don in sports-drama Jhund, and Andrea Kevichusa who played Aido in Ayushmann Khurrana starrer Anek.
