In Andhra Pradesh, a PUBG addicted 16-year-old boy killed himself after his friends mocked him over losing the game. The incident comes just a week after a minor in Lucknow murdered his mother after she stopped him from playing the highly addictive and banned game.

The horrific incident of the minor killing himself over mockery related to online game loss was reported from Andhra Pradesh’s Machilipatnam town in Krishna district. The 16-year-old took the tragic step of killing himself earlier on Sunday.

On Sunday, after facing a defeat in PUBG, the minor deceased boy’s friends started mocking him. Frustrated and overwhelmed with the humiliation, the young boy hanged himself from the ceiling.

The deceased boy, Vutukuru Prabhu, was a class 9 student and was in Machilipatnam to spend vacation with family members. On Saturday evening, Prabhu was playing Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) with his cousins when he reportedly lost the game. Following the loss, his cousins started teasing him. Further, his father asked him to stop playing the highly-addictive game for hours.

The humiliation from the mocking, and his father’s demand of not playing the game got to him. Upset about the same, he decided to take his own life. Meanwhile, Prabhu’s mother has raised suspicion over her son’s death, and a case of suspicious death has been registered.

The Facts of the Matter

Even with the blanket ban by the Indian government, hundreds of thousands of youths and young adults have continued playing multiplayer online game Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG). Unfortunately, due to the highly addictive nature of the game, and the lack of appropriate social conditioning on the part of the players, reports of suicides and murders centered around the game are becoming more common than ever.

Deceased Boy was on Holidays

Recently, a 15-year-old boy in Andhra Pradesh committed suicide after his cousins mocked him over losing the game. The deceased boy, identified as Vutukuru Prabhu was in Machilipatnam with his family and relatives to spend the holiday.

Being Humiliated, Reprimanded by Father

The class 9 student was playing PUBG earlier on Saturday evening last week when he faced the loss. Following the loss, Prabhu’s family members started teasing him. An already humiliated Prabhu received another shock when his father prohibited him from playing the game continually for hours.

Boy Decides to Take the Grave Step

Upset over facing the loss, being humiliated by his cousins, and having his father forbid him from playing the game. Prabhu decided to take the grave step. After having dinner, he went ahead in his room to sleep and then committed suicide by hanging from the ceiling fan.

On Sunday, when his father tried to call him out by knocking the door, he was alarmed at the lack of activity on the other side of the door. After multiple knocks, the family decided to break the door open and were horrified to find the 15-year-old hanging from the ceiling fan.

Parents had Divorced, Mother Raises Suspicion

According to a New Indian Express report, Prabhu’s parents got divorced a few years ago, and he had been living with his mother in Vijaywada. Following the incident, Prabhu’s mother Poornima has raised suspicion over her son’s death and based on the same, a case of suspicious death has been registered.

Horrific Incidents Related to PUBG Addiction

Earlier last week, a 16-year-old boy shot his mother dead with his father’s licensed pistol after she asked him to stop playing PUBG. The boy’s father is in the Army. After killing her mother, the accused minor hid her body for the next three days, and used room freshener to mask the smell of the decomposing body. He further threatened her 10-year-old sister that he would kill her as well if she raises an alarm.

Meanwhile, in April, a 12-year-old boy allegedly made a hoax bomb threat call to the Bengaluru Railway Police Helpline and caused tension at the city’s Yelahanka railway station. Later it was revealed that the call was part of the boy’s ploy to stop his classmate from boarding the next train so that he could continue playing PUBG with him.
