The Anti-Narcotics Cell on Wednesday arrested Bollywood actor Dalip Tahil’s son Dhruv for buying drugs. The Mumbai Police’s anti-drug cell arrested Dhruv after a thorough investigation led to a WhatsApp chat between Tahil and his drug dealer.
Background
Bollywood and drugs have for years gone hand in hand with several actors being arrested or taking to rehab due to addiction. The intersection of drugs, drug dealers and Bollywood celebrities was the talk of the town last year after the untimely death of Sushant Singh Rajput. Rajput’s girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty has been questioned multiple times by the Narcotics Control Bureau and incriminating evidences have been found against her in which she was found guilty of procuring drugs for Rajput.

On Wednesday, Dhruv Tahil, son of popular Bollywood actor Dalip Tahil, was arrested by the Anti-Narcotics Cell’s Bandra arm. The arrest happened after the anti-drug cell found some WhatsApp chat between Tahil and his drug peddler during an investigation. The drug dealer in question here is Muzammil Abdul Rahman Shaikh who was earlier arrested by the Anti-Narcotics Cell. Shaikh was arrested by the cell for having 35 gm of Mephedrone and was later charged with NDPS Act (Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act).
Contact with drug dealer since 2 years, WhatsApp chat suggests money transfer
When the police investigated Shaikh it was found out that Dhruv Tahil was in contact with the drug dealer since the last 2 years. When the authorities probed into his WhatsApp chat it was found out that Dhruv used to contact him regularly for drug related needs. Dhruv had also transferred money to Shaikh’s bank account for buying drugs. The officials said that an Anti-Narcotics Cell team will be further investigating into the matter. The team will be led by Deputy Police Commissioner Datta Nalawade.
As of now, Dhruv has been charged under sections 27 and 29 of the NDPS Act. The Section 27 of the NDPS Act is Punishment for consumption of any narcotic drug or psychotropic substance and Section 29 is Punishment for Abetment and Criminal Conspiracy.
Dalip’s own opinions during Kangana Ranaut’s attack on Bollywood celebs using drugs
It should be noted that Dhruv’s father Dalip was vocal in raising his opinion during Kangana Ranaut’s controversial remarks against Bollywood industry for drug use. According to Hindustan Times Dalip said how, “It’s a malaise that has engulfed our lives. So, you can’t just point fingers at Bollywood. What started to get justice for the tragic death of an actor is turning into a circus.”
He further added, “Before she (Kangana) passes personal judgement on her colleagues, she should also get tested herself. There’s much more happening in big businesses, media, where people are being manipulated, exploited and even dispensed off. Let’s talk about that as well?”
Ajaz Khan’s arrest and investigation for drug use
Earlier last month another celebrity was arrested by NCB for drug use. Bollywood actor Ajaz Khan, who was also seen in Bigg Boss, was interrogated for more than 8 years after some drugs were found in his possession.
An NCB official stated: “Ajaz Khan is arrested for his connection with Batata Gang. The 4.5 grams of Alprozol tablets were recovered by chance during his house search but he is mainly arrested for his association with Batata Gang.”
Meanwhile, Ajaz Khan rejected all the allegations made against him and said how the sleeping pills found at his home were for his wife as he had suffered a miscarriage. He was quoted by ANI saying, “. “Only 4 sleeping pills were found at my home. My wife has suffered a miscarriage & is using these pills as antidepressants”,

Many high-profile Bollywood celebrities in the past have come under the grill for the usage of drugs. Popular film actor Sanjay Dutt, who has been part of several conspiracies including his involvement in the 1993 Bombay Blast, has also been vocal about his drug use. He spoke at a college event a few years back and revealed anecdotes about his drug addiction. He said how he had approached his father and told him that he is a drug addict after which he was taken to a rehab in USA.
