The Khatija Rahman Hijab Row

Back in 2019, Khatija was in the eye of a controversial storm over wearing niqab. It so happened that Khatija, in one event was dressed in a saree and had her face covered in niqab. This led to many netizens on the internet label the Rahman family as ‘conservative’.

However, Khatija got back to the trolls on her own with an elaborate post she shared on Facebook. “I would like to say that the attire I wear or the choices I make in my life does not have anything to do with my parents. The veil has been my personal choice with complete acceptance and honour”, her post read.

“Hence, kindly don’t make your own judgements without understanding the exact situation. #freedomofchoice”, she had further added.

Mr. Rahman too made it a point to stand up against the trolls and shared a picture on Twitter which showed three women in her family – all dressed differently.
