An Army helicopter carrying Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) Bipin Rawat crashed in Coonoor, Tamil Nadu on Wednesday afternoon. During this incident, apart from CDS Bipin Rawat, his wife and other army officers were also present in the helicopter. Rescue operation has started immediately after the accident.

The army helicopter that crashed in Coonoor, Tamil Nadu was a Mi-17V-5 helicopter.

Tamil Nadu Forest Minister K Ramachandran also reached the spot. According to Minister, five of the 14 people on board the plane have died and the condition of two others is critical.

Several army officers were onboard. Apart from CDS Bipin Rawat and his wife Madhulika Rawat, Brigadier LS Lidder, Lt Col Harjinder Singh and other officers were there in the helicopter. Apart from this, Naik Gursewak Singh, Naik Jitendra Kumar, Lawn Naik Vivek Kumar, Lance Naik B. Sai Teja and Havildar Satpal were there in the chopper.
