The BharatPe vs BharatPe founder saga continues as Ashneer Grover took a dig at company’s CEO on Twitter. In his tweet, BharatPe founder Ashneer Grover as a founder can’t buy a 2nd hand Porsche while Suhail as a company’s employee can buy a BMW in 1 year.
Grover’s sarcastic comment came after a Bloomberg report quoted BharatPe employee claiming that Grover and his wife upgraded their lifestyle significantly with renting a penthouse from their modest home. The employees also added that Grover spent upwards of almost a crore on a dining room table and purchased a Porsche. Grover and his wife were also alleged of renovating luxury property.
Meanwhile, Grover rubbished the allegations made by the company employees and was quoted in a Bloomberg report saying, “The only thing lavish about me is my dreams and ability to achieve them against all odds through hard work and enterprise”.
The entire saga of a disgruntled Ashneer Grover and the company’s management hurling allegations towards each other has unfolded for a period of over two months, and continues to evolve.
The Facts of the Matter
After quitting BharatPe, Ashneer Grover has once again stirred the controversy, this time by taking a sarcastic dig at his former company’s CEO Suhail Sameer. His comments came after a report from Bloomberg quoted his company’s employees alleging that Grover upgraded his lifestyle to a more lavish one, spending money on expensive dining table, and even a luxury vehicle – Porsche.
Taking to Twitter, Grover recently wrote, “I am proud @SuhailSameer14 that within 1 year of joining BharatPe you could buy BMW Z4 Convertible sports car. I’ve made my employees’ dreams come true. Ironic that you believe you as employee can afford your dream and I as Founder can’t even afford a 2nd hand Porsche. Touché !!”

Grover Spent Over Rs. 1 Crore for Dining Table
Ashneer’s cheeky comment came just days after Bloomberg published a report stating how Grover bought a Porsche and also spent over Rs. 1 crore ($1,30,000) on a dining table. In its report, Bloomberg quoted the fintech startup’s staff who claimed that Ashneer Grover and his wife Madhuri Jain Grover upgraded their simple home for a much more luxurious penthouse and went on to renovate luxury property.

BharatPe Sales Team Pushed Relentlessly Under Grover’s Reins
Furthermore, the staff also complained that as the company started to grow, Grover’s pushed them severely. There were times that the company’s sales team met their soaring targets by offloading loans on merchants who never wanted the credit at the first place.
Meanwhile, Grover refused all the allegations raised by the staff and spoke to Bloomberg where he was quoted saying, “The only thing lavish about me is my dreams and ability to achieve them against all odds through hard work and enterprise”.
Former BharatPe Employee’s Interaction with Grover
The Bloomberg report shed light on the current “move fast, break things” culture that is weighing down on several startups in India. The report stated that during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic, a new employee was shocked to see that there weren’t any impositions regarding masks on the premises. The employee in the Bloomberg report said that Grover lambasted her for making “COVID an issue”.

“Fast growth will come at a cost..”: Grover
Meanwhile, earlier in February, Grover gave an interview to business news platform Moneycontrol where he was quoted saying, “If you expect that someone will create a $6 billion dollar business in less than four years and want everything to be perfect, including culture, sorry just not going to happen. Fast growth will come at some cost, no?”
