In an incident that may just be turned into a Netflix series or a film, an Indian lawyer proposed to his Ukrainian girlfriend who had fled amid the Russian invasion. And to make the incident all the ‘filmier’, the couple’s proposal took place at an airport, a location where the most dramatic moments unfold on the big screen.
This is the story of 30-year-old Anna Horodetska, a Ukraine national and her partner Anubhav Bhasin who’s 33-years-old and works as a Delhi High Court lawyer. If the couple’s proposal was something out of a movie, their entire love story has followed the same suit. The couple had fallen for each other while traveling, and had decided to get married in 2022.
Until a certain someone from Russia ordered a “denazification” of Ukraine. After the Russian troops intensified the invasion, Anna was stuck at bomb-shelters. However, Anna took the leap of faith and decided to flee her troop-intensified country for her love.
Anubhav and Anna’s relationship have now survived a pandemic and a war, and they are all prepared to be by each other’s side come what may.

We have all heard the phrase – “love triumphs and transcends over all”. But how often do we see it being realized in front of our own eyes?

Love Across Borders – Anubhav Proposes to Anna at Airport
The couple recently got engaged at the Delhi airport itself when Anna decided to flee from Ukraine. The couple’s simple proposal could’ve put the most scripted and elaborate proposals shame with the time and condition in which it came up.
As soon as 29-year-old Anna Horodetska’s plane landed, her partner 33-year-old Anubhav Bhasin went on the knees at the Delhi Airport to hear a yes.
How Anna and Anubhav Started Dating?
It should be noted that the couple started dating while they were both traveling across India. This was when Anna got stuck in India due to the COVID-19 induced nationwide lockdown and the flight cancellations that followed. Anna stayed in India and the couple’s relationship blossomed during her stay at Anubhav’s place.
Around the time the second wave of the COVID-19 broke, and the second lockdown was declared, the couple stayed connected. They met again in Dubai after the lockdown was lifted. In December 2021, the couple decided to get married after meeting each other’s families.
War Breaks Out, Anna Decides to Come to India
The couple were meant to get married sometime in 2022 in Delhi until Russia started its invasion. Stuck in Ukraine, Anna was in and out of several bomb-shelters and started staying in Lviv, a placve that’s relatively closer to Poland.
In an Indian Express report, Anna said how she and Anubhav had fights thrice since the invasion and their last fight happened when Anna told Anubhav that she’s coming to India. With faith empowering her, Anna began her treacherous journey in the middle of the war. She found a bus that was to depart to Slovakia and crossed the border on foot as well.

Reaching India, Getting Engaged
From Slovakia, she headed to Krakow, Poland where she had some friends who helped her with accommodation. Finally, she applied at the Indian embassy and flew back to India. As soon as Anna landed, Anubhav proposed to her on the airport.
