In a distressing news, an Aurangabad-based PhD scholar reportedly set himself on fire, and later tried to set ablaze the woman who rejected his proposal. The deceased jilted lover reportedly set himself on fire and then hugged the woman who had rejected his advancements. The deceased has been identified as Gajanan Munde (30).

The deceased scholar was rushed to a hospital, where he succumbed injuries earlier on Monday. Meanwhile, the woman sustained 55% burn injuries, and is still receiving treatment at hospital. The entire incident occurred at the Government Institute of Science (GIS), Aurangabad.

As per the reports, both Munde and the woman he was obsessed with, were not doing PhD at the GIS. It was the woman who had come to GIS to meet an assistant professor working in the institute. When she was in the cabin with the professor, Munde barged in, poured fuel all over him and set himself on fire. He also tried to lock the woman in his arms to burn her as well.

Hearing the woman’s cries, other employees of the institute rushed and extinguished the fire with a fire extinguisher. During investigation, the cops were able to recover a suicide note where he blamed his girlfriend for pushing him to take the grave step.

Further, it was revealed that this was his third attempt at killing self.

The Facts of the Matter

As per the National Crimes Report Bureau’s 2021 report, Maharashtra registered as many as 2330 murders, out of which most were caused due to dispute, love affairs, vendetta, and illicit relationships. While 1027 cases were motivated by dispute, 232 murders were caused due to illicit relationships, 119 due to affairs, 230 due to enmity.

In another shocking incident that encompasses all the above-mentioned causes, a PhD scholar reportedly set himself on fire, and tried to set ablaze a woman he loved and rejected his proposal, by hugging her when he was engulfed in flames.

Both Deceased and his Lover PhD Scholars

The incident took places in the premises of the Government Institute of Science (GIS), Aurangabad. The deceased was identified as Gajanan Munde (30). Both the deceased and his lover were doing PhD in zoology department of a different university.

Jilted Lover Sets himself Ablaze

The woman had come to the GIS to meet an assistant professor. Earlier on Monday afternoon, Munde followed his lover and barged in the cabin she was in. He poured himself with fuel, and set himself on fire. When the woman tried to flee, Munde tried to take her life as well by hugging her.

Some college staffers rushed after hearing the woman’s cries, and doused the flame using extinguisher.

Woman Survives, Sustains 55% Injuries

The duo was rushed to the Government Medical College and Hospital, where Munde succumbed to his burn injuries later on the same day. Meanwhile, the woman, who sustained 55% burn injuries, is currently receiving treatment.

As per preliminary investigation, the deceased wanted to marry the woman, but she had been rejecting his advancements. Out of anger, he decided to take his own life, and also kill his lover, who survived the ordeal.

2 Suicide Notes Recovered, Deceased’s Family Booked

The cops also recovered two suicide notes at the hostel where Munde lived. One of the notes was six to eight months old. Further, as per a TOI report, Munde also wrote a note on a blackboard, where he claimed that his girlfriend pushed him to take the grave step.

Meanwhile, the relatives of the woman filed a complaint with the police, and Munde and his family have been booked for attempt to murder and other sections of the IPC.
