In its hilarious tweet, the Mumbai Police twitter handle made references to the films both Shroff and Patani starred in and confirmed the update. The Bollywood couple was stopped by a police man at Bandra bandstand.

Mumbai Police makes example of Disha Patani & Tiger Shroff through hilarious tweet

Amid going above and beyond the line of duty for the citizens of the city, Mumbai Police has been garnering a lot of attention for one more reason: its hilarious tweets that make references to films, pop-culture and relevant references to attract the Gen-Z and millennials while keeping them informed.

On June 3, a day after Bollywood stars Disha Patani & Tiger Shroff were booked for flouting the COVID-19 guidelines, the law enforcement authority’s twitter handle posted a hilarious tweet.

The tweet was- “In the ongoing ‘War’ against the virus, going ‘Malang’ on the streets of Bandra cost dearly to two actors who have been booked under sections 188, 34 IPC by Bandra PStn . We request all Mumbaikars to avoid unnecessary ‘Heropanti’ which can compromise on safety against #COVID19.”

The tweet made a reference to a few films Patani & Shroff starred in – War, Malang, & Heropanti.

Netizens Laud Mumbai Police creativity, Some Continue Banter

On the tweet, the netizens lauded the creativity of the team behind the Mumbai Police’s twitter handle.

A few twitter users continued the banter and posted tweets making references to other films Tiger Shroff has starred in.

How were Disha Patani and Tiger Shroff caught by Mumbai Police?

Early on June 1, the Bollywood superstars were booked for violating the lockdown restrictions imposed by the authorities. According to the police, the couple were out on a drive and had no valid reason to do so. The two superstars were stopped at Bandra Bandstand by policemen that were on patrol duty. The Mumbai police said that Shroff is a Bandra resident.

After the initial inquiry, the police confirmed that the two were out violating the COVID-19 regulations by going out on a drive without valid reason. According to current rules, any person found violating the restrictions without an essential reason can be booked by the Mumbai Police.

The police officials also ascertained that the two actors were returning from a gym and had taken a route which was closed due to work. After document verification and booking the two actors, the police told them to take the longer route to reach their destination.

News agency ANI quoted the police saying-

“The case was registered under section 188 (Disobeying the order of public servant) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). No arrest was made because it is a bailable section.”

Total 19,963 FIRs filed in Mumbai for lockdown violations

It should be noted that the entire state of Maharashtra is under a lockdown and under the current restrictions, movement of people without essential reasons after the 2 PM deadline is unlawful.

After the imposed restrictions, the Mumbai police have registered a total of 19,963 FIRs against 20,000 lockdown violations (between April 5 – June 1).

While close to six thousand seven hundred cases were those of people roaming without a valid reason, over four thousand six hundred were the cases of people not wearing masks.

A total of 1,640 FIRs were meanwhile filed against those who were found crowding public places. The reminder of FIRs were filed against hotels & non-essential places operating and vehicles being used for lockdown violations.
