In Barabanki, a bus and truck collided in a major accident where 9 persons are reported dead and 27 are reported injured. According to reports, the double decker bus was on its way from Delhi to Bahraich. Photo journalists who reached their captured the horrific accident. Pictures that have so far surfaced show the bus being torn like a paper from the middle. Further, some pictures show the driver’s side of the truck completely crushed and flattened.

The news comes just a few months after another accident took place in Barabanki where 18 laborors who were sleeping on a highway were ran over by a truck.


Not only is Uttar Pradesh the most populous state in the country, not only does it account for the most crimes across any state in India, it also accounts to the highest number of deaths with least number of accidents.

According to the National Crime Records Bureau, In 2020, Uttar Pradesh emerged as the biggest contributor to the number of deaths across nation due to accidents (15%). UP recorded the most fatalities in road crashes (23,285), which was followed by Maharashtra that registered 14,609 deaths (9.4%).

Recently the state witnessed another horrific accident where 9 people lost their lives and 27 people are critically injured.

As many as 9 persons were killed and 27 people were reported being seriously injured in an accident reported from Barabanki, Uttar Pradesh. The road accident happened when a truck collided with a double decker passenger bus in the Barabanki district. While 9 people died on the spot, the injured were shifted to the nearest local hospital. Further, the most gravely injured have been admitted to the KGMU trauma center in Lucknow.

The How, What and Why of the Barabanki Accident

Reportedly, the bus was on its way to Bahraich from Delhi via Lucknow. The journey was going well till 5.30 AM, Thursday morning as the bus reached Kisan Path’s Baburi village. However, soon things were about to change for worse.

According to reports, a truck that was heading straight towards the passenger bus suddenly lost its control and collided with the bus. The impact was such that even the splinters of both the bus and the truck came off.

While it’s not still confirmed how the truck driver lost control, a Times of India report claims that the driver was trying to save a stray cow.

What Happened After the Accident?

According to a Live Hindustan report, the police and district administration personnel rushed to the spot after receiving the news. The impact of the accident was so intense that the authorities had to cut off the bus from the middle to get the injured out. When a slew of injured were sent to district hospital, the doctors announced that 9 of them were dead.

PM Modi, CM Yogi Adityanath Condoles the Deaths

Meanwhile, both UP CM Yogi Adityanath and PM Narendra Modi took to Twitter and condoled the deaths of the bus passengers. Taking to Twitter, PM Modi wrote, “Anguished by the road accident in Barabanki, Uttar Pradesh. Condolences to the families of those who lost their lives. Prayers with the injured. Rs. 2 lakh each from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of the deceased and Rs. 50,000 to the injured.”

The UP CM also condoled the deaths of the deceased and directed the officials to provide help to injured in any way possible.
