In a concerning development from Bihar, at least 30 people have been reported injured, including 7 cops as a fire broke during Chhath Puja in Aurangabad district. The incident occurred during the early hours of Saturday in Aurangabad’s Shahganj locality, following which multiple fire tenders were rushed to the spot for search and rescue operation of those affected in the tragedy. Initial reports have stated that the mishap occurred due to gas leakage.
As per sub-inspector in-charge Vinay Kumar Singh, the incident occurred when an LPG cylinder exploded inside a home where offerings for Chhath Puja were being prepared. Vinay Kumar Singh also stated that the house owner Anil Goswami claimed that the gas had started to leak from the cylinder, and before the occupants at the home could evacuate, the house was up in the flames.
Harrowing pictures have emerged on social media, showing the injured individuals seeking treatment at their local healthcare centres. A team of cops and personnel from fire department were rushed to the spot and five cops, including a female constable, sustained injuries during the rescue operation. The injured individuals were rushed to the Sadar Hospital and other health care centres.
Earlier on Monday this week, Motihari city in Bihar also witnessed a similar fire-related mishap where property worth lakhs went in ashes.

As Diwali ended, the four-day festivities of Chhath rolled off across state in India. The festival is primarily celebrated in states like Bihar, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, and is observed to worship Sun. In the wake of the festivities, a tragic incident occurred where at least 30 people were injured. The shocking incident was reported from Bihar’s Aurangabad district.

Explosion Occurred During Prasad Preparation
The fire broke out in the house of Anil Goswami, where the Chhath Puja ‘prasad’ was being prepared. As per reports, an LPG cylinder exploded in the home. “We were preparing for Chhath puja, my wife was making meals. A sudden fire broke out at my shop after a cylinder there exploded. My family members were injured,” Anil was quoted by ANI.

Stampede Like Situation Unfolded
As per sub-inspector in-charge of Town police station Vinay Kumar Singh, the home owner Anil Goswami had spotted the gas leaking from the LPG cylinder. However, before he could raise an alert, the LGP cylinder went up in flames and exploded, injuring occupants of the house. Because of the explosion, a stampede like situation unfolded in the locality, causing chaos and disruption.
7 Cops Injured During Rescue
Soon, a team of cops and personnel from the fire department were rushed to the spot to fight the fire and rescue the injured. While dousing the fire and rescuing the injured, at least 5 cops, including a female constable, were injured. As of 11.30 am, various reports have stated that as many as 7 cops have been injured in the incident.

Cop Gives Account of Incident
A Hindustan Times report quoted a cop injured in the incident saying, “When we reached there, we saw people trying to douse the flames. I also tried to help them. But as soon as I caught hold of a pipe, there was a blast and I got wrapped in flames.”
The injured were rushed to Sadar Hospital, and other local health centres for the treatment. So far, no ex-gratia has been announced for the injured in the shocking tragedy.
