In a harrowing incident from Bihar, a man reportedly set his mother ablaze for not paying for his drugs & threatening to report him to cops, Hindustan Times reported. The incident was reported from Vaishali district’s Hajipur area in Bihar and occurred earlier on Sunday. The accused in the matter was identified as 28-year-old Rohit and her deceased mother has been identified as Ranju Devi.

Earlier on Sunday, the mother-son duo got into a heated argument over Rohit’s drug addiction. Like any mother, Ranju Devi asked her son Rohit to quit his addiction and attend to his affairs by living a straight life. She also told him that if he doesn’t quit his addiction, she would report him to the cops. This irked Rohit, who was already in an inebriated condition.

In an alcohol-fueled fit of rage, the accused Rohit doused her mother with kerosene and set her ablaze. The shocking act was later spotted by the neighbours, who saw smoke coming out of Rohit and Ranju Devi’s home. They rushed to the spot and snuffed out the fire.

Ranju Devi was rushed to the nearby hospital and the cops were immediately alerted as well. A severely injured Raju Devi succumbed while giving her statement to the cops. The accused reportedly works as a daily wager.

The Facts of the Matter

While the anti-drugs agencies in India are waging a war against drug peddlers across nation, the perils of drug abuse continues to wreck homes, destroy livelihoods, and end lives. In one such incident reported from Bihar, a woman suffered her son’s wrath after she asked him to quit his addiction and threatened him to report to cops.

The incident was reported from Hajipur area, Vaishali district, Bihar. The accused was identified as 28-year-old Rohit Poddar while his mother was identified as Ranju Devi. Ranju murdered his mother by setting her ablaze earlier on Sunday.

Mother Refuses to Pay Money For Son’s Drugs

As per a cop at the town police station, the mother-son duo had a heated argument earlier on Sunday, 10 pm over Rohit’s drug addiction. Like any mother, Ranju scolded her son for his drug addiction, and told him to set his life straight by quitting his drug addiction. This backfired in a fatal and brutal way for Ranju Devi, who was frustrated over sustaining her son’s drug addiction.

The Fatal Threat

During the heated conversation, Ranju threatened her son that if he doesn’t quit his drug habits, she would report him to the cops. An inebriated Rohit did not take her mother’s threat kindly, and attacked her in a shocking fit of rage.

Victim Succumbs, Probe On

The 28-year-old accused poured kerosene all over his mother in a drunk state, and set her room on fire. Some neighbours soon spotted fire coming from the accused-victim duo’s residence, and rushed to help Ranju Devi. They found Ranju severely injured due to burns and rushed her to the local hospital.

While giving her initial statement to the cops, Ranju succumbed to her injuries. Further investigation is on in the matter.

Similar Incident Reported from AP

Earlier in September, a similar incident was reported from Andhra Pradesh, where a man was seeing kicking his mother for not giving him money for buying alcohol. The accused had brought her mother to live with him away from his elder brother on the pretext of β€œtaking care of her”. However, he started to live of his mother’s pension money and use it to buy alcohol.
