Bihar’s BSEB declared the 10th board result for Bihar students on April 5, 2021. The result was declared after a press release that was hosted by Vinay Kumar Choudhary, the Bihar Education. In a first, Bihar is the first education board of India that has released both the results for class 10th and 12th despite the COVID-19 induced lockdown that saw schools closing.

According to the data shared by the Bihar State Examination Board (BSEB), this year, 78.1% students passed the 10th standard exams. The state has witnessed a 2% drop in the results as in 2020, the 80.59% students had passed their 10th standard exams. A total of 16,54,171 10th class students appeared for their board exams in Bihar this year. Out of these 16.5 lakh plus students, a total of 8,29,278 students were boys and 8,24,893 students were girls. When it comes to passing the exam, a total of 6,76,518 boys passed the exams and 6,16,536 girls passed the exams. This puts the passing student grand total to 12,93,054 students.

According to the BSEB release, a total of 4,13,087 students have secured the first division while 5,00,615 students have received second division. Meanwhile 3,78,980 have to settle for third division. Only 372 students have received a compartment.

Talking about the meritorious students, over 100 students have made it in the top 10 merit list. The first rank is jointly shared by Pooja Kumari, Shubhdarshini and Sandeep Kumar, all achieving a high score of 98.60%. 13 bright students from the state government funded Simultala Awasiya Vidyalaya (SAV) have performed with excellence and have topped their 10th board exams. Pooja Kumari and Shubhdarshani, both the students who achieved 98.6% also hail from the state government funded SAV.

This year, the students who appeared for their 10th board exams, were welcomed by a new pattern. The Bihar Board posed 50% of objective type questions this year. Additionally, 20% internal choice in the questions was also given to the students. According to the Bihar Board officials, this shift to objective type questions was introduced to assess whether the students have a conceptual clarity or not. This also helped the Bihar Board to produce result at a faster pace.

In terms of reevaluation for the students who feel their scores were unjustified, they can avail the rechecking option provided by the Bihar State board. Students who are unsure of their BSEB 10th results can easily apply for scrutiny of the marks obtained by having their answer sheets rechecked. They can either apply to the board and ask them for a scanned copy of their answer booklets (OMR sheets). For students who could not achieve passing marks, they’d need to appear for a compartmental exam. The dates of these exams are not announced yet.
