In the recently concluded Blind T20 world cup, Indian unit defeated Bangladesh to clinch the title for the 3rd time. Following the victory, PM Modi reacted on Twitter and wished the Indian blind cricket team well and congratulated them on their victory. The victory was one of the most comprehensive ones, with Indian team defeating its Bangladeshi counterparts by a 120-run margin.

Opting to bat first, the Indian team posed an almost unsurmountable total of 277 runs in 20 overs. The Bangladesh team couldn’t stand the whirlwind of the Indian bowling attack, and could only score 157 runs, giving India a 120-run victory. Sunil Ramesh and Ajay Kumar Reddy, both scored centuries, scoring 136 and 100 runs respectively.

The bowling unit couldn’t take many wickets, and Bangladesh reached the crushing end of their tour with seven wickets to spare. However, the bowling attack played a crucial part in choking the Bangladeshi batting attack and not letting them score runs at the needed rate.

Reacting to the victory, Prime Minister Modi took to Twitter, and wrote, “India is proud of our athletes.  Delighted that we have won the T-20 World Cup for the Blind. Congratulations to our team and best wishes to them for their future endeavours.”

The Facts of the Matter

To say the Indian men’s cricket team had an underwhelming year, would be far short of an understatement. The team lost Asia Cup, got disqualified from the ICC T20 World Cup at the semi-final stage, and recently lost an ODI series to Bangladesh.

However, it’s national blind team recently gave the country much to celebrate. The team recently thrashed Bangladesh in the final of the Blind T20 world cup, and won the title for the third time.

Third Consecutive T20 World Cup Victory for Blind Team

The third edition of the Blind T20 world cup was hosted by India, and saw the Australian, Bangladeshi, South African, and Sri Lankan team competing.

The Indian team was in a commanding position throughout the tournament, after winning the first two editions of the world cup in 2012 and 2017. In the final India posed a mammoth of a total for the Bangladeshi to win. In response, Bangladesh got restricted 120 runs short.

Batters Launch All-Out Attack

Opting to bat first, the Indian batters launched an all-out attack against the Bangladeshi bowling unit. While the team was rattled at 29/2, the partnership of Sunil Ramesh and Ajay Kumar Reddy was something nobody would forget. While Sunil remained not out for 136, Ajay remained notout for 100, giving Indian team a total of 277/2 in 20 overs.

Bowlers Do Their Part

The Bangladeshi team never looked in control of the game, especially in the second innings. While wickets didn’t come by easy for the Indian bowlers, they did manage to choke the opposition into not being able to hit boundaries at the needed pace. Eventually, Bangladeshi batters could only put up a total of 157/3 at the end of 20 overs.

Earlier in the tournament, the Indian team was the favourite, and eventually stormed into the final by defeating South Africa by a shocking margin of 207 runs. The Indian team also set a record-setting target of 338 runs in just 20 overs.
