The winners of the 69th National Film Awards were revealed on Thursday, August 24th, 2023 during a press conference held by the jury at the National Media Centre in Delhi. The announcement ceremony was live streamed online through the Press Information Bureau’s social media channels. This annual event discloses the recipients of the prestigious honors given to exemplary works in Indian cinema over the past year.
This year’s National Film Awards have special meaning, as they recognize the work of artists and filmmakers in 2021 when the world was still dealing with the devastating COVID-19 pandemic. With movie theaters shut down for so long, only a handful of films last year tried to bring audiences back to the big screen. Out of 280 feature films across 20 languages, these award winners stood out for their quality and resilience during incredibly tough times. Even as the pandemic caused chaos everywhere, these films and artists persevered to uplift and entertain people through their creativity.
