Popular Brazilian influencer and model Luana Andrade tragically passed away this week after suffering complications during a cosmetic procedure in São Paulo. The 29-year-old died early Tuesday morning after undergoing liposuction surgery on her knee the previous day.
Complications Lead to Cardiac Arrest
According to reports, Ms. Andrade’s heart stopped approximately two and a half hours into the liposuction surgery. The procedure was being performed by a private doctor and anesthetist chosen by her family at São Luiz Hospital.
The surgery was immediately halted once complications arose. Doctors then tried unsuccessfully to revive Andrade and she was transferred to the intensive care unit. A medical investigation later revealed that the influencer suffered a pulmonary embolism associated with a thrombosis.
The hospital stated: “The surgery was interrupted and the patient underwent tests that revealed massive thrombosis. She was transferred to the ICU where she underwent medication and hemodynamic treatment.” Tragically, Andrade passed away around 5:30am on Tuesday.

Tributes Pour In From Friends and Family
Andrade’s boyfriend, João Hadad, penned a heartfelt tribute on Instagram, stating: “I am torn apart and living my biggest nightmare. A part of me left. We built a beautiful story and lived our dreams intensely.”
Her friend and football superstar Neymar also expressed condolences, writing on social media: “Sad day with two very bad news. First, it was the attack that Bru’s (Bruna Biancardi’s) parents suffered, but thank God everyone is fine! Secondly, the death of a friend. My condolences to the whole family, may God receive Luana with open arms.”

Influencer had Large Social Media Following
Andrade boasted an enormous social media following, including over 123,000 followers on Instagram. She was the owner of her own clothing brand called Lukand and worked as a stage assistant on the popular show Domingo Legal.
The Brazilian model also appeared on the reality program Power Couple Brasil 6 earlier this year. She was a rising star and much-loved influencer in her country.

Surgical Procedures Not Risk-Free
Speaking about the risks of liposuction, plastic surgeon Dr. Eduardo Teixeira stated: “There is no risk-free surgery, nor any medical procedure that does not involve some type of risk, especially when it is a surgical procedure.”
He explained that liposuction requires anesthesia, which always poses a potential complication. However, fatalities are extremely rare.
Andrade’s Passing Saddens Brazil
The passing of the vivacious 29-year-old influencer and TV personality has left many in shock and grief across Brazil. Andrade’s family, friends, and millions of fans are mourning the tragic and sudden loss of a talented young woman in the prime of her life.
While the risks of cosmetic surgery remain very low, Luana Andrade’s untimely death serves as a solemn reminder that no medical procedure is entirely without hazards. May she rest in peace.
