On July 6, it was reported that Brazilian model Thalita do Valle, who joined Ukraine’s army as sniper, killed in Russian airstrike. She joins the long list of people who volunteered to fight for Ukraine following the Russian invasion and were killed in action.

Thalita was killed earlier on June 30 in the city of Kharkiv, some 470km from Ukraine capital Kyiv. It should be noted that Thalita joined Ukraine in its resistance against Ukraine with former Brazilian soldier Douglas Burigo. Douglas was also killed in an airstrike after he reportedly went into a bunker in a bid to find Thalita.

Thalita do Valle was a 39-year-old sniper who had earlier fought against the Islamic State of Iraq. Following joining the volunteer force, she was famous for sharing pictures of her time in Ukraine on TikTok and other social media platforms.

Prior to her military stints, she received sniper training. She joined Pashmergas, a military force in Iraq’s Kurdistan. Other than her work in the field of war, she also extended her services to various animal rescue NGOs.

After her death, her brother Theo was quoted by UOL saying, “She was a hero, and her calling was to save lives, running after humanitarian missions.” Hailing from Sao Paulo, Thalita was a former child actress and started working as a model after she turned 18.

The Facts of the Matter

The killing of Brazilian model Thalito do Valle, who was killed earlier last month in a Russian airstrike has shed the light on countless volunteers who joined Ukraine in its resistance against the Russian invasion.

Earlier on June 30, Brazilian model Thalito do Valle, who joined the Ukrainian forces as a sniper, was killed in action. She died in an airstrike when Russia targeted a bunker in Kharkiv.

Thalito Killed Alongside Another Brazilian Soldier

The 39-year-old had volunteered to fight for Ukraine along with her partner Douglas Burigo, a Brazilian Army soldier. Reportedly, Douglas also died in the airstrike after he went into the same bunker to find Thalita.

According to reports, she had earlier fought against ISIS in Iraq after joining Peshmerga, Kurdish branch of the Iraqi Armed Forces. She received sniper training after joining Peshmergas. Since volunteering for Ukraine, she had been sharing pictures from the warzone on TiKTok and other social media platforms.

Life of Thalita Outside Warzone

Her life outside the warzone was as eventful as inside one. A student of law, she was a former child actress. She also worked as a model after she turned 18.

After her demise, her brother Theo Rodrigo Viera gave a heartfelt tribute and called her a ‘hero”. “Thalita has always been involved in humanitarian missions with the foreign legion of some country or here in Brazil,” Theo said.

“She was always moved by the feeling of saving animals and humans. My sister was always peaceful, a genuine progressive. Guns are part of a context, war, but she saved lives, she saved animals,” he added.

Surviving Bombing in Kyiv

During her stint in Ukraine, she provided cover to Ukrainian troops as a sniper from advancing Russian troops. According to reports, she had survived bombing in Kyiv. She also reportedly informed her relatives that the Russian side was monitoring cellphones by drones.
