A devastating building collapse occurred in Lucknow’s Transport Nagar on Friday, September 7, 2024, resulting in the tragic loss of eight lives and injuries to numerous others. The three-story structure, which was being used as a godown and was undergoing construction, collapsed onto a nearby street.

Rescue teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and local authorities rushed to the scene to search for survivors and extricate the injured from the rubble. As of now, at least 28 people have been rescued, but fears remain that more individuals may be trapped.

The injured victims have been transported to Lok Bandhu Hospital for medical treatment. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has expressed deep sorrow over the incident and has instructed officials to prioritize rescue efforts and ensure that the injured receive the necessary care. Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has also offered his condolences and is in close contact with local authorities.

The collapse of the relatively new building has raised questions about building safety standards and construction practices in the region. Investigations are underway to determine the cause of the incident and to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
