In a development enough to put a stressful sweat down the brow, a bus in Himachal Pradesh hung by thread off a cliff. But thanks to a brave driver, all the 30 passengers were rescued. Owing to topsy-turvy roads constructed around hilly terrains, the passengers traveling on Himachal Pradesh roads sometimes have close encounters with death. The picturesque valley can be dangerous to drivers who are amateurs and the recent development proves as much.

Details
As many as 30 passengers in a bus had a close encounter with death when their bus veered off a road at the National Highway 707 and was left hanging by the thread off a cliff. The travelers were aboard a private bus when the accident occurred at Bohrad on Poanta Shillai highway in Sirmaur district at Himachal Pradesh.

Images Shows the Horrific Nature of Accident
In the images that followed the incident, the bus’s front wheels can be seen hanging in midair off the cliff while the backside of the bus can be seen tilted, about to be swallowed by the dangerous and possibly fatal depth.

Driver Saves the Day – 300 Meter Fall Averted
However, thanks to the alertness and quick reflexes of the driver, the bus and the passengers were saved from the immediate 300 meter fall. According to reports, had the driver not applied the brake at the right moment, the bus would have plummeted down to the 300-meter-deep gorge. The cause of the mishap is being reported as a breakage of the steering wheel when the bus was near Bohrad, 10 km away from Kafota.

Steering Wheel Broke, Brakes Pushed at Right Time
As the bus’s steering broke, it skidded off the road and was hung in the air after it received some resistance from the roadside parapet. On seeing that the bus making its way through to the gorge, the bus driver held his composure and soon his reflexes took over him. He quickly pressed the brakes and managed to stop the bus from making a free fall.
Passengers Manage to Get out of Bus, Driver Also Rescued
The bus driver then asked the passengers to quickly make their way out of the bus and soon the passengers were evacuated. But one caveat remained as the bus driver was still in the hanging bus. Soon the passengers put stones on the bus’s tire to stop any further skidding and slipping. The bus driver too got safely rescued.

Similar Incident in China
In a similar mishap in China, a family traveling in a car had to jump out of their vehicle after it was rolling down the cliff. The whole ordeal was caught in a horrifying video. According to Daily Mail, the passengers were at the Xinjiang’s Duku and were just enjoying some views when their car started rolling down the edge of the cliff.

The small footage shows how the driver was taking a sip of their drink as the car began to move forward. Soon, the man tried to stop the rolling car in a panic while the passengers managed to jump out of the car – the small boy jumped out of the car from the back seat while an olderwoman also got out of the car from the backseat.

But the tensions arose when a woman was stuck in the front seat, unable to get out of the seat belt as the car continued to roll down. The co-passengers soon witness horror of the woman not being able to get out of the car as it plunged off the cliff.
Thankfully, the woman survived the fall but suffered some injuries.
