The All India Kisan Sabha and The Samyukta Kisan Morcha said that the Prime Minister’s comment that called farmers “Andolan Jivi”, is an insult to the farmers of India.

PM Modi termed the ongoing farmers as “Andolan Jivi”. To which many people including farmer unions expressed disappointment over the remarks.

Samyukta Kisan Morcha, an umbrella organization of several agricultural unions, reminded Modi that it was the protests and mass demonstrations that led to India’s independence from the British Raj. They also said that farmers would “go back to farming” only after the government accepts their demands.

PM was also condemned by SKM. They want to remind the Prime Minister that it is the Andolan who liberate India from the colonial rulers and hence we are proud to be Andolan Jivi. It is the BJP and its predecessors who had never done anything against the British and they were always against the Andolan,” They said through a statement.

The organization doubted the government’s intention to resolve the issue and strongly condemned the Central Government’s move to “silence people’s voices” in an explicit reference to Twitter blocking multiple accounts related to unions on Twitter.

Meanwhile, Akhil Bharatiya Kisan Sabha also condemned the remarks made by the Prime Minister and said that “The PM was solely responsible for the ongoing struggle”. In a press note, the organization demanded that the Prime Minister should withdraw the agricultural laws and electricity bill and “implement MSP’s own electoral promise at C2 + 50%”.

“If the protests are happening in a constitutional way, it’s every citizen’s right. And the Prime Minister is misusing his power to humiliate farmers who are struggling to protect their livelihood which is highly condemnable. The Akhil Bharatiya Kisan Sabha said that AIKS appeals to all democratic classes, political parties, and mass and class movements to condemn this humiliation of farmers by the PM.

The speech delivered by the Prime Minister in Parliament, the organization said, highlighted the compulsions of his government which is in the grip of foreign and domestic corporate capital.
