Chopra’s javelin throw not only helped him clinch a gold medal, but also threw an otherwise medal starved India to new heights. On his historic feat, Chopra is being showered by rewards from the Indian government and several private organizations.

The date 7th August 2021 will be etched forever in the consciousness of Indian sport circuit in golden ink. The day marked 23-year-old army boy throwing a monstrous throw and beating the champions of the champions to clinch a gold. After his jubilant feat, he was congratulated by various Indian dignitaries, celebrities, influencers, sportspersons and the who’s who of influencers.

Haryana CM Starts the Movement

The humble boy of a farmer not only received a congratulatory call from the Indian Prime Minister, but he has also been bestowed financial rewards one after the other. It all started with Haryana Chief Minister announcing that Chopra will receive a reward of Rs. 6 crores and will also be made the head of the Centre for Excellence in Athletics. Moreover, Haryana CM also announced a piece of plot of land at concessional price for him.

Manipur Govt Joins In

The Manipur government, which has in the past awarded Northeastern athletes on their accomplishments, announced Rs. 1 crore reward for Chopra. Taking to Twitter, Manipur CM N. Biren Singh wrote, “On this historic day where India bagged an Olympic Gold medal in an athletic event after 100 years, the Manipur State Cabinet has decided to honour the Javelin throw Gold medalist @Neeraj_chopra1 by extending a reward of ₹1 Crore. Congratulations on this historic win, Neeraj.”

Punjab CM, BCCI, Chennai Super Kings Do Their Part

Capt. Amarinder Singh, Punjab Chief Minister, also announced a cash reward of Rs. 2 crores for Neeraj Chopra. BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India), which is the richest cricket board in India, announced a reward of Rs. 1 crore for Neeraj. Indian Premier League franchise Chennai Super Kings too announced a Rs. 1 crore reward for Chopra.

IndiGo Announces Special Reward

Moving to private organization, Indian private airline IndiGo announced that as a mark of appreciation, it will offer Chopra unlimited free travel for a whole year. IndiGo CEO Ronjoy Dutta in his statement said-

“Neeraj we were all overjoyed to hear about your remarkable achievement. You have made the country proud, and I know all IndiGo employees would be truly honoured to welcome you onboard one of our flights.”

Anand Mahindra and Byju’s Too Reward Chopra

Mahindra and Mahindra chairman Mr. Anand Mahindra, is famous for acknowledging and appreciating sportspersons in India. Earlier he made the buzz by gifting the Thar SUV to Indian cricketers Shardul Thakur, T Natarajan, Washington Sundar, Shubhman Gill and Navdeep Saini. After Chopra brought India its second ever athletics gold in the Olympics history, Mahindra announced giving Mahindra XUV 700 to the golden boy.

EdTech unicorn Byju’s also announced an award of Rs. 2 crores for India’s track and field star athlete. Further, Byju’s also announced a sum of Rs. 1 crore as a reward for each Indian medal winner that would arrive from the Tokyo Olympics.
