Prime Minister Modi on Thursday May 20, held a virtual meeting with District Magistrates from 10 states where he said that the cases have come down but as long as the infection remains, the challenge will keep persisting at minor levels. DMs from Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Puducherry, Kerala, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal and Odisha took part in the meeting.

PM Modi in his meeting said that the virus is invisible and it changes its forms in variants. And thus, he suggested to the DMs that their approach should evolve and see constant upgradation. The Prime Minister also acknowledged how the virus have made their jobs demanding and challenging. But with new challenges, the nation requires new strategies. He also reiterated on the importance of local experiences and coming together as one force to work as a country.

The PM also suggested the DMs to collect COVID-19 data and data pertaining to infections in kids and youths in their districts. PM Modi said that as the coronavirus is mutating into different forms there have been cases where youths and young individuals are having issues. “We have to be more prepared”, he said.

“Friends, you must have observed that in the past few weeks, the cases have been on decline. But you must have also experienced in the past year or so, that till the virus is on level, the challenge persists. At times when cases go down, people feel that its no cause of worry and the virus is gone. But experiences are somewhat different. In order to make sure that people continue taking measures like testing and distancing seriously, government, area representatives, and society, all must be in sync,”

-PM Modi said.

“When COVID appropriate behavior like wearing masks, maintaining distance are continued to be adhered, by the citizens in your districts and the villages, it helps with the fight against the virus a great deal,”

-said the Prime Minister.

“On scientific level, the nation’s scientists are working towards understanding the evolving variants of the virus. From making vaccines to forming new SOPs to creating new drugs, work is being done consistently. When our administrative approach will also be this innovative and dynamic, we will get extraordinary results. The challenges in your districts must be unique, and thus, your solutions must also be equally unique,”

-directed the PM to the DMs.

“Wastage of even one veil of vaccine is equivalent to not providing a person defence to fight against the virus. Curbing vaccine wastage is of utmost importance. I’m also of the opinion that when you will analyze the data of your districts, make sure you evaluate urban and rural regions with different perspective. This will help you to create strategies in a more focused way and you would be better able to know which areas of concern to focus more on,”

-PM Modi told.

“In my experience, when residents of small villages are given the right information at the right time, they follow it religiously. A team should be form in a village and this team should give the residents of the village the clarity,”

-said PM Modi on how to keep villages COVID-19 free.

“You have the learnings from the past experiences, and the motivation from the successful efforts made in the past. I have utmost faith in the fact that you will successfully be able to make your respective districts transmission free, and we all will be successful in saving the lives of the citizens of the country,”

-assured PM Modi to the DMs.
