As the bowler bellowed ‘Catch It’, Harleen Deol took an unbelievable catch in the Eng vs Ind Women’s 1st T20 international. Such was the beauty of the catch that Deol was lauded by prominent sportspersons and various dignitaries. From newly appointed sports minister Anurag Thakur to veteran businessman Anand Mahindra, masses and classes have come together to praise Deol.
Little did Harleen Deol know that while playing for her side in the first T20 international against England, she will be bestowed titles after titles from netizens. Some are claiming her catch the “best catch in the women’s cricket history” while some are giving her the label of Wonder Woman.
Harleen didn’t have the best of days when it came to bat. She could only score 17 runs at a disappointing strike rate of little over 70 runs. Her average batting performance was all the more troubling given her team had to chase a challenging total of 178 to win.
Getting Rid of the Dangerous Amy Jones
However, the 23-year-old cricketer managed to steal the English thunder, And how! It all happened in the 19th over of the England’s inning. On the crease was the dangerous Amy Jones, who was playing at the score of 43 with no plans of stopping her carnage. In order to lure Amy to play full, bowler Shikha bowled her a full-length delivery which was outside off stump.
Harleen Leaps Like a Superwoman, Saves like a Wonder Woman
The bowl could have easily cleared the ropes had it not been Deol’s sharp reflexes, assertive presence of mind, and sheer perfect conversion of the catch. Harleen showed her athleticism and caught the ball, however, she within a fraction of second, realized that the speed at which she was running would make her cross the boundary.
Then – she turned the impossible, possible. She caught the ball, and threw it out of the boundary safely. Crossing the boundary, she then made a full-body dive and completed the catch. With the stunning dismissal, she got rid of the dangerous Amy – who could have caused some serious damage.
