In a horrific incident caught on cam, a drunk guard was seen dragging and physically abusing girls at a Delhi-based hostel. Following the incident, the DCW has sent a notice to police to file an FIR regarding the matter. The incident reportedly took place earlier on August 13.

The victim in the matter reportedly vacated the hostel the very next day. The incident came to the fore after the CCTV footage of the incident went viral on social media earlier on August 16.

Following the incident, Delhi Commission of Women chief Swati Maliwal took to Twitter and wrote – “In a PG hostel running in Karol Bagh, the security guard molested and beat up the girls in a state of intoxication. We received the complaint through Twitter, in view of the seriousness of the matter, a notice has been issued to the police. Will ensure strict action in the matter.”.

Along with her tweet, the DCW chief also shared the hair-raising video of the incident. In the video, the PG girls can be seen running helter-skelter as a security guard, who was allegedly drunk, tries to run after them. The accused man can be seen trying to drag one of the girls, and groping her. The PG in question was identified to be the Golds Villa PG.

The Facts of the Matter

According to data shared by the Delhi police, the national capital reported more cases of crimes against women till July 15, 2021 compared to the same duration in 2020. The national capital has witnessed an alarming 16.9% increases in crimes against women, which include rape, molestation, kidnapping and husband cruelty.

As per the data, cases of molestation increased from 1,244 (2021) to 1,480 (2022). Similarly, in 2020, 1,880 women were kidnapped till July 15 whereas 2,197 kidnapping cases have been reported in 2022 so far.

Meanwhile, another horrific incident of abuse against women was reported from Delhi, with the video of the entire ordeal gone viral this time.

The Facts of the Matter

On August 16, the Delhi Commission of Women chief Swati Maliwal took to Twitter and shared that the commission has sent a notice to the police regarding a horrific incident reported from Karol Bagh.

In Delhi’s Karol Bagh, a security guard, who was allegedly drunk, dragged women who lived as PGs and abused them. The security guard in question can be seen in a video chasing women, groping them and physically abusing them.

What Does the Video Show (Discretion Advised):

In the video shared by the DCW chief, few women PGs can be seen running fin fright from a security guard, who is alleged to be in a drunken state. The security guard in question can be seen running after the girls, dragging them, and further groping them.

In the background, a woman can be heard saying in Hindi, “Accha toh ye sab they waha pe (Oh, so all of them were there). Another woman can be heard saying, “Himmat toh dekho isko (just look at his courage)”.

DCW Seeks Action

Following the incident, the DCW sent a notice to the Delhi Police, seeking a FIR to be filed in the matter. The women’s commission stated that it has taken suo-moto cognizance in the matter.

Meanwhile, DCW chief Swati Maliwal was quoted in a News 18 report saying, “A disturbing incident has been reported to the Commission. An FIR must be registered immediately and accused must be arrested. The brazenness of the act is unnerving and strongest action needs to be taken.”

Hostel Owner Didn’t Take Action

The incident reportedly took place at the Golds Villa PG located in the Karol Bagh area. It is being reported that following the horrific incident, the hostel owner didn’t take action against the accused despite getting information about the incident. Meanwhile, the victim in question reportedly vacated the PG the next day (August 14).
