In a heartbreaking incident caught on cam, a leopard got hit by a car on a highway in India and got stuck under the bonnet of the vehicle. The incident was brought to the fore when Bollywood actor Raveena Tandon took to Twitter and shared the video of the entire ordeal. In her tweet, Tandon appealed to ministers to take into consideration that linear development can happen while keeping conservation in mind.
“Prayers for this beautiful leopard… hope he survives, even though he’s badly wounded, he escapes into the jungle. @WildLense_India I hope our politicians wake to the fact that linear development can happen hand in hand with well thought of conservation methods,” Tandon’s caption read.
In the now gone viral video, the leopard can be seen struggling after being stuck under the vehicle bonnet. The driver tries to reverse the car in order to free the leopard. However, the leopard continues being dragged by the car and attacks the car. Somehow, the leopard frees itself from the mess and flees the scene.
Due to increase in the pace of urbanization and deforestation, leopard-human conflicts have been on the rise. Earlier in 2021, a 2-year-old leopard was found dead on a road near Gurugram with reports speculating the big cat was hit by a vehicle. Similarly, in 2019, another female leopard came under a truck in Manesar.
The Facts of the Matter
According to a purported video going viral, a leopard was injured after being hit by a car on a Highway in India. The undated video was recently shared by Bollywood actor Raveena Tandon. It should be noted that there are no reports as to where the incident transpired or when it really did. The entire ordeal was caught on cam, visuals of which are going viral on Twitter.
“Prayers for this beautiful leopard… hope he survives, even though he’s badly wounded , he escapes into the jungle . @WildLense_India I hope our politicians wake to the fact that linear development can happen hand in hand with well thought of conservation methods,” Raveena Tandon’s caption read.
What Did the Video Show?
In the barely eight second video, the leopard can be seen stuck under the bonnet of the car. The torso and two limbs of the big cat is against the car’s bonnet while its lower body is under the bonnet. Somehow as the car reverses, the big cat is able to free itself and within seconds runs away to a good safe distance.
Another video shows the matter from a different angle. This time, one can see the leopard lying down under the car’s bonnet. The car driver tries to reverse in order to free the leopard. However, the beast is stuck brutally and gets dragged with the car against the road.
Somehow, the leopard is able to free itself and simply flees the scene.

This is what we are doing to our wildlife. It's a simple case of bad planning. More importantly we are building unsafe roads for citizens. @OfficeOfNG @MORTHIndia @MORTHRoadSafety @nitin_gadkari @RoadkillsIndia

What we see is just tip of the iceberg. Animals get killed due to badly planned linear infrastructure day in and day out across the country.

indian highways and road rules r worst than africa when we will develop as nation and as a society??

NHAI officials and minister both have no interest in protecting wildlife by constructing better road with planning . Their main interest is to make highways anywhere in this country by violating all the rules.
