In a horrifying moment caught on cam, a lion bit off a man’s fingers in a Jamaican zoo after it was teased behind the enclosure. The hair-raising video of lion attacking the man behind the cage after getting agitated serves as an appropriate disclaimer to enjoy the majestic beauty of these big cats from a safe distance.

In the video, a man can be seen putting his fingers inside a cage with a seemingly agitated lion on the other side. Despite the lion’s growls and its agitated body language, the man continues inserting his fingers inside the enclosure and continues teasing the big cat.

Things escalate in no time as the big cat simply closes its jaws when the man had put his fingers between them. The panic and pain struck man can be seen trying to fend off the big cat, who was in no mood to let him go.

According to a Jamaica Observer report, the man’s right ring finger was bitten off in the shocking ordeal. An eye-witness was quoted by the Jamaica Observer report saying, “When it happened, I thought it was a joke. I didn’t think it was serious. I didn’t realise the seriousness of it, because it’s their job to put on a show.”

The Facts of the Matter

Zoo-keepers and animal-sanctuary personnel across the world are often seen coming way too close to predators like tigers, leopards, lions and more. Their long experience of interacting with big carnivorous cats without any mishaps often makes them too negligent and reckless. In such situations, they end up getting too up, close and personal with these potentially violent creatures, and in the process, end up hurting themselves in the most horrific ways.

Recently, a man lost his finger after he was attacked by a lion who was agitated after being receiving end of teasing. The incident occurred in Jamaica Zoo; a local attraction located in the west of Santa Cruz. The horrific incident was caught on video, visuals of which are going viral on Twitter.

What Does the Video Show?

The distressing visuals showed a Jamaican man putting his hand inside the lion’s enclosure in an attempt to pet him. The man, who was later reported to be a zoo-keeper, was trying to put on a show for the 12-14 visitors that had gathered around him.

The man can be seen trying to pet the lion, who is getting increasingly agitated. For the next few seconds, he continues to put his hand around the lion’s face and near his jaw, despite repeated growls of anger and displeasure by the lion.

The matters escalate in the blink of an eye when the lion shuts its jaw tightly right at a moment when the man has his fingers inside his jaw. The man tries to tug and pull out his hand from the lion’s jaw, but the king of the jungle was in no mood of letting go.
