In a horrifying accident caught on cam, 15 persons were injured after a speeding bus full of wedding baratis crashed into a toll booth in Gujarat. The incident was reported from Tapi district where the Mandal toll plaza was rammed by the speeding bus which appeared to be out of control in the CCTV footage. The bus was reportedly making its way through to Gujarat from Burhanpur, Madhya Pradesh. According to reports, the bus was ferrying passengers who attended a wedding in Burhanpur. According to reports, the injured people include 2 toll plaza employees.

The incident comes just two days after another accident that was reported from Rajasthan. A bus and a tanker collided on a highway in Barmer, Rajasthan killing 12 people and injuring 32 more.

Background

According to a Hindustan Times report, over 21,000 persons were killed in road accidents in the state of Gujarat in the past 3 years (as of September 2020). While 21,529 persons were killed in road accidents, 46,146 persons were left injured due to road accidents in the aforementioned period.

The Surat jurisdiction accounted to the most number of fatalities, at 1,257 deaths due to accidents. Surat was followed by Ahmedabad, Valsad, Banaskantha, Rural Vadodara, Rural Ahmedabad, Bharuch with 1,075, 998, 971, 947 and 923, 917 deaths respectively.

The Facts of the Matter

As many as 15 persons were left injured after a bus full of wedding invitees rammed into a toll plaza in Gujarat. The injured also included 2 women toll plaza employees of the Mandal toll plaza. The incident was reported from Songadh taluka in Tapi district. Reportedly, the bus lost its control and due to the high speed, rammed into the toll booth. The entire incident was reported on CCTV footage, the visuals of which, are making the rounds of internet.

What the CCTV Footage Showed

The 30-second footage shared by a Twitter account called My Vadodara shows the accident from multiple angles. The first angle showed the bus ramming into the toll booth from one side.

One can see the actual devastation the accident caused from the CCTV that was placed inside the toll booth. In that particular clip, a woman can be seen sitting inside the toll booth. The woman is alarmed by the speeding bus, and she makes it out of the way of the bus just in time. As the bus crashes, the CCTV is damaged and one can only see red tints.

From another angle from the front, one can see the speeding bus losing its control. The bus then rams into the booth with several people running helter-skelter, trying to rescue the passengers. Some passengers can also be seen jumping from one exit of the bus.

Bus Was Ferrying Wedding Invitees

According to the police, the bus was returning from Burhanpur. The speeding bus was carrying passengers who had attended a wedding function in Burhanpur, Madhya Pradesh. Further, it was also revealed that the vehicle was a private luxury bus.

After the accident, the two women toll plaza cashiers, and other injured were rushed to a government hospital in Vyara. R.L. Mavani, the Tapi Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) said that the driver of the bus was booked.
