In 2013, a shocking statistic was revealed by the Special Relief Commissioner in Odisha after a cyclone and floods wreaked havoc in the state. The SRC stated that as many as 1,487 big animals and 2,906 small animals were killed in the twin calamities.

Come 2019, and as many as 209 animals were reported dead in Assam after heavy rainfall battered the state and also caused as many as 69 people to die. These animals included deer, rhinos, wild boars, buffaloes, porcupines, and more.
