In a heart stopping incident, a Sydney bound Air India flight suffered severe turbulence, resulting into several injuries, with the purported video of the incident making rounds of social media.
According to sources from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), seven fortunate people emerged with nothing more than minor sprains. Swiftly responding to the situation, Air India’s vigilant cabin crew, aided by a doctor and nurse who happened to be among the passengers, administered first aid to those wounded in this aerial chaos.
An Air India spokesperson issued a statement after the flight safely landed in Sydney. ““Air India’s flight AI302 of 16th May 2023, operating from Delhi to Sydney encountered turbulence mid-air leading to discomfort to the passengers on board,” the statement read.
“The flight landed safely in Sydney and three passengers availed of medical assistance on arrival, none of whom required hospitalization. This onboard incident has been reported to the relevant authorities as a standard practice,” the statement further stated.
With an air of both relief and concern, it was reported that three passengers sought medical assistance upon arrival at Sydney airport. However, in an encouraging twist, the injuries were deemed non-life-threatening, and none of the passengers had to be hospitalised.

Air travel has long been considered one of the safest modes of transportation, but turbulence can still pose a significant risk. Recently, two separate incidents involving mid-air turbulence have been reported, one with Air India and another with SpiceJet. Passengers Treated by Nurse, Doctor on Board
According to sources within the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), this ill-fated flight flew earlier on Tuesday. Seven people emerged from the turbulence, nursing minor sprains as physical reminders of their perilous journey.
The Air India cabin crew, aided by an exceptional doctor and nurse among the passengers, swiftly sprang into action, providing the much-needed first aid to the wounded in the aftermath of the chaos that took place thousands of feet in the air.
“Cabin crew provided first aid to the injured with the assistance of a doctor and a nurse traveling as passengers, using an onboard first aid kit,” DCGA was quoted saying in a PTI report.

A spokesperson from Air India solemnly recounted the shocking incident that unfolded aboard flight AI302 on the fateful date of May 16th, 2023.
“Air India’s flight AI 302 of May 16, 2023, operating from Delhi to Sydney encountered turbulence mid-air leading to discomfort to the passengers on board,” the Air India spokesperson said.
“The flight landed safely in Sydney and three passengers availed medical assistance on arrival, none of whom required hospitalisation. This onboard incident has been reported to the relevant authorities as a standard practice,” the spokesperson further added.
Incident a Grave Reminder to Infamous SpiceJet Turbulence Episode
This incident resonates eerily with a chilling memory from the past. Last year, a SpiceJet flight enroute from Mumbai to Durgapur faced a similar turbulent ordeal during its descent.
In a heart-wrenching twist, a dozen passengers found themselves caught in ferocious turbulence. While some of the passengers survived the ordeal with minor injuries, their journey ended in tragedy as one passenger, Akbar Ansari, succumbed to his injuries several months later.
