In a blood-curdling incident reported from Chennai, a 14-year-old who left her home to end her life, ended up getting abducted and raped by a driver. The incident was reported from Avadi, Chennai and occurred earlier on Wednesday. The victim, her sister, and their parents had moved from Vellore to Chennai suburbs a few months back.
According to reports, the victim was upset over being admitted to a different school and had a fight with her parents. Threatening to kill herself, the girl left her home. However, she was abducted by an autorickshaw driver who raped her.
As per a New Indian Express report, the victim didn’t enjoy her new school and repeatedly got into fights. Earlier this week her parents were summoned to the school. Upset with an argument with her mother, the girl told her sister that she is ending her life and left home.
The accused in the matter, 38-year-old Ramakrishnan, kidnapped her, took her to an isolated place, and raped her. Based on the victim’s statement, and CCTV footage, the accused was caught and booked under sections of IPC and POCSO.
Reportedly, the victim had somehow managed to flee and met a woman on the road, who took her to the nearest police station.
The Facts of the Matter
A 14-year-old girl was recently forced to meet eyes with the worst of humanity, after she was raped by a autorickshaw driver who lured her in the pretext of dropping her. What’s further saddening is that the class IX student had left her home to ‘end her life’ as she was upset with her parents.
The incident was reported from Avadi, Chennai and occurred earlier on Wednesday this week. The accused in the matter was identified as 38-year-old Ramakrishnan.
Family Moved from Vellore, Victim Was Troubled
As per reports, the victim and her family, which included her younger sister, moved from Vellore to Chennai. Her parents are contract labourers and she is a student of a government-aided school in the city she moved recently.
Like many children would, the victim too found it difficult to adjust in the new city and the new school. Further, she also got involved in fights repeatedly. Earlier this week on Wednesday, she got in an argument with her mother after her school summoned her parents regarding her behaviour.
Leaving Home to End Life, Getting Abducted
Upset over everything happening around her, the victim took the tragic decision of taking her life. Earlier on Wednesday evening, when her parents were out for work, the girl left her home, telling her younger sister about her plan.
Sometime around 9 pm, the accused autorickshaw driver spotted the victim walking by herself on the road. On the pretext of giving her a lift, the accused man lured her into getting into his vehicle and then took her to an isolated spot where he sexually assaulted her.
Victim Manages to Flee
Somehow, the 14-year-old victim managed to escape from the clutches of the accused, a Teachers Colony resident. She met a woman on the road as she was fleeing. The woman heard the girl’s ordeal and took her to the nearest police station.
Investigation Ensues, Accused Nabbed
The police took a statement from the girl, and initiated an investigation in the matter. Based on 20 CCTVs and their visuals, the police were able to zero in on the suspect, Ramakrishnan.
Inspector T Latha, involved in the investigation of the case, was quoted in a TOI report saying, “With the help of the identity given by the girl, our police team checked footage from at least 20 CCTV cameras and nabbed the man before he could escape from the area”.
Ramakrishnan was booked under charges of aggravated sexual assault under POCSO and IPC.
