In a shocking incident from Chennai, a female teacher who had an affair with her minor student was arrested after the minor ended up committing suicide. Earlier on Wednesday, the Chennai police arrested Sharmila, a class 10 teacher, a month after a 17-year-old killed himself. Reportedly, the 23-year-old teacher had a relationship with the deceased boy, and later cut ties with him.
As per reports, the deceased teen was found hanging in his room earlier on August 30, after he returned from a counselling session. The plot thickened when the deceased’s family suspected foul play, and filed a complaint with the Ambattur police. Soon, the case was registered and an investigation ensued.
During investigation, the deceased’s teen revealed shocking facts that confirmed the family’s suspicion. The phone showed the deceased teen frequently contacting the 23-year-old teacher. The investigators interrogated the deceased boy’s friends and school staff, and got more insight on their closeness.
Further technical analysis revealed that Sharmila and the deceased teen exchanged texts often and had even taken intimate pictures together. The matters devolved when the teen wanted to continue relationship with Sharmila who was not in favour of that.
The 23-year-old teacher has been booked under multiple sections of IPC, including section pertaining to abetment of suicide, and has also been booked under the POCSO Act.
Background
Cases under the POCSO Act and of molestation have increased doubly in Chennai in 2021 compared to 2020. As per data shared by HT, POCSO cases in Chennai were 239 in 2020 which increased to a harrowing 435 in 2021. The tally stood at 49 as of February 2022 with ten more months remaining.
The city saw another harrowing POCSO incident recently where a teacher allegedly had an affair with her student, and also abated to the student’s suicide.

The Facts of the Matter
A month after a 17-year-old boy was found hanged at his home, the Chennai police arrested a 23-year-old female teacher identified as Sharmila and charged her with the POCSO Act. The teacher in question was also booked with abetment to suicide and after appearing before the court, was sent to the jail.
Teen Kills Self, Family Suspects Foul Play
Reportedly, the minor boy had gone to a counselling session earlier on August 30th and was found hanging in his room. The family suspected foul play, and subsequently filed a complaint with the police. The Ambattur police filed a case and an investigation revealed the murky truth behind the death of the minor.
Investigation Ensues
During the investigation, the cops interrogated the minor’s friends and school management staff and found out that he was close to his 23-year-old teacher Sharmila. The cops conducted a technical analysis of the boy’s phone and found out that he was in contact with his teacher.
Teacher-Student Took Intimate Pictures with Each Other
A detailed investigation was carried out which further revealed some startling facts. The deceased boy and his 23-year-old teacher used to exchange texts and calls frequently. They also took intimate pictures with each other.

The Last Straw
The deceased teen attended the tuition ran by Sharmila for two years and was jilted when he found out that she had gotten engaged. He was further irate when the teacher stopped attending his calls and cut off all ties with him.
The duo had an argument regarding the matter as the teen insisted of continuing their relationship and the teacher was not in favour of doing so. Reportedly, Sharmila has been booked under section 305 (abetment of suicide of child) and POCSO Act.
