What is the China – Taiwan Conflict?

For the unversed, the China – Taiwan conflict comes from the fact that China considers Taiwan under its own sovereignty and claims that it will be part of China again. It should be noted that for the better part of the last seven decades, the two countries have been ruled separately.

In 1980s, China proposed the “1 country – 2 systems” formula under which it said that Taiwan will receive autonomy if it reunified with China. However, Taiwan rejected the offer but did relax rules on Chinese investment in Taiwan and vice versa.

Recently, Taiwan has been on the receiving end of heightened military activity by the Chinese side on the borders. To this military aggression, Taiwan has over the course of years have established diplomatic ties with US, Japan and more.
