Recently, Congress claimed that Rahul Gandhi’s twitter account was suspended. Twitter denied the allegations on the other hand and a spokesperson claimed that the account is active and under service.
The update comes a couple of months after Twitter had caused another storm as it removed verification badges from prominent leaders, labelled BJP leaders’ tweets as manipulated media.
Further, the claim on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s account being suspended comes a day after his tweet was removed by Twitter as it didn’t meet certain guidelines laid down by the platform.

Twitter can’t seem to catch a break it seems. It has only been a few weeks that the microblogging platform has stopped facing the wrath from the Indian government over its IT Rules 2021 compliance issues. Now, the social media platform is under controversy after opposition party Congress has come out with a claim that its leader Rahul Gandhi’s account has been “temporary locked”.

What is Congress’ Claim?
On August 7, Congress’ official Twitter handle posted a tweet which read, “Shri @RahulGandhi’s Twitter account has been temporarily suspended & due process is being followed for its restoration. Until then, he will stay connected with you all through his other SM platforms & continue to raise his voice for our people & fight for their cause. Jai Hind!”
After the Congress party claimed that Gandhi’s account was “suspended” it corrected and shared another tweet.

Twitter Denies Claims, Says Account Active
Amid the claims by Congress, Twitter has come down swinging and has said that Gandhi’s account has not been suspended and remains active. Twitter spokesperson added that when an account is suspended on Twitter, it is removed from a global view.
On searching, we at Shiksha News also found the account to be in the global view with the last tweet shared by Gandhi from August 6 when he had taken part in the ongoing farmer’s protest.

Twitter Removes RaGa’s Tweet
The claims by Congress comes after Twitter removed a tweet shared by Gandhi which showed him meeting the family of a 9-year-old girl who was raped and murdered in Delhi. The Twitter message said that the tweet was removed as it violated its guidelines.
The 9-year-old girl came from a Dalit family and was found dead at a local crematorium earlier last Sunday. The alleged accused are 4 men, including a 55-year-old priest. The family has alleged that the accused cremated the body of the girl after raping her.
NCPCR Accuses RaGa of Violating POCSO Act
The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) took to the Delhi Police and Twitter and asked them to take action against Gandhi who posted a picture of the victim’s family. The NCPCR stated that sharing the picture violates the Juvenile Justice Act and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

Congress Attacks BJP – “Government too busy intimidating Twitter”
Meanwhile, on the alleged suspension of the account, Congress has slammed BJP and has accused the party of intimidating Twitter.
“Based on a complaint by the BJP, the Twitter account of Rahul Gandhi has been locked. Instead of giving justice to the 9-year-old Dalit girl, the BJP and the Narendra Modi government are far too preoccupied in intimidating Twitter as also illegally chasing Rahul Gandhi. Had PM Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah used this time in ensuring justice for the Dalit girl…Delhi would have been a safer place.”
