Dramatic events unfolded in Kerala after a contractor climbed a coconut tree and threatened to jump and kill self if he was not paid Rs 4.80 lakhs that was overdue. The high-octane drama was reported from Palliyodu hamlet in Neyyattinkara town located on the outskirts of Thiruvananthapuram. The matter finally came to an end when the fire-brigade was able to get the man climb down three hours later.

It so happened that Suresh, a contractor, had built a house for a person. However, when the time of payment came, the house owner kept stalling and pushing the payment date. Suresh made ample attempts to collect the Rs 4.80 lakhs of money he was owed, but to no avail.

In a desperate bid to collect his dues, Suresh decided to climb the tree and be perched up until he is not paid. Earlier this week, he executed his plan and climbed a tall coconut tree. Soon, locals took notice of him and fire brigade was called.

The fire brigade personnel first tried to calm the man down and persuaded him to come down. However, he didn’t budge and started to make threats. To make sure that Suresh doesn’t end up hurting himself, a net was also tied beneath the tree.

Three hours of cajoling later, Suresh finally decided to climb down.
