A 43-year-old Manchester-based delivery driver, who once won a whopping sum of £1,00,000 in lottery, was recently caught stealing training shoes worth £15,000. Despite the theft, the man’s lucky streak continued and he was handed a suspended notice, meaning that he avoided jail time! The lucky man who avoided jail time after being found guilty of theft of shoes was identified as David Swatman.

Back in 2018, David was reported to have won £100,000 on a scratch card. During an interview, David had said that he was planning to use the money to follow his favorite football team Liverpool and treat his friends well.

“I’ve followed Liverpool all my life but because of my job, I often have to work weekends and can’t see them play as often as I would like to. Thanks to this win, I can treat not only myself but my friends as well,” he was quoted saying.

Despite winning the huge sum, he kept his job as a delivery driver, working for a shoe retailer FootAsylum. During his job, he would steal a pair of shoes here a pair of shoes there when the shoes were supposed to be transported.

The company took him to court where the case was heard However, as the company took time in bringing the case to notice, the man was handed a suspended notice.

A Manchester-based man’s lucky streak is seemingly endless, as after winning a lottery, he also avoided a prison sentence lately. The lucky man was identified as David Swatman, who works as a delivery driver for a shoe retailer FootAsylum. After confessing to stealing shoes worth £15k, and showing ramose, the man was handed a suspended sentence, meaning no prison time.

Lucky Man Wins £100,000 Lottery

The man’s luck was in full display back in 2018, as he won a £100,000 lottery by a lucky scratch card. At that time, he declared that he would follow his favourite team Liverpool all his life and keep on his job.

“I’ve followed Liverpool all my life but because of my job, I often have to work weekends and can’t see them play as often as I would like to. Thanks to this win, I can treat not only myself but my friends as well. Who knows, I could even get tickets to the Champions League final in Kiev if Liverpool make it there!”, he was quoted saying.

Greed Gets Better of Lottery Winner

After the win, he kept his job of being a delivery driver for a shoe retailer Foot Asylum. During his job, he was supposed to deliver parcels to the footwear retailer’s store. However, the greed got the best of him, and he reportedly stole boxes for himself.

He then used to take the boxes of shoes he had stolen and used to give it to a third party.

Company Notices Discrepancy

His mischief came to light when the company noticed discrepancy in the number of boxes leaving the depot and arriving at the next warehouse in Manchester. Authorities analysed the CCTV footages which showed David making an “unauthorized stop” and the number of boxes being transferred into another vehicle.

During the trial, the court got to learn that the accused had 22 sets of other convictions for 44 offences, including drink drive offences, and more. After hearing the entirety of the prosecution and defendant’s side of the case, the judge came to a conclusion.

Surprising Conclusion by Judge

The judge expressed surprise that it took the company over two years to bring the case to the court when the accused had already admitted his crime initially. The judge went on to say, “I have formed the strong view by what you have achieved over the last two-and-a-half years that there is a realistic prospect of rehabilitation in your case,” as quoted by The Mirror.
