In exciting new development, Bollywood power couple Deepika-Ranveer, Adani Group and Manchester United are the frontrunners to bid for new IPL team, reports suggest. The bidding session for two new teams will be conducted on October 25 in Dubai.

Earlier it was announced that IPL will be changing its 8-team-tournament format and will have 10 teams for the upcoming season of the league. Interestingly enough, a CricketAddictor report also suggests that Ahmedabad and Lucknow will likely be the new teams for the upcoming IPL.

The IPL is organized every year by the BCCI where so far 8 teams have competed for the final trophy. The 8 teams are named on the city – Rajasthan Royals, Chennai Super Kings, and more.

IPL 2021 came and went with MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings taking the trophy for the fourth time in the tournament’s history. Outside international team matches, the league tournament attracts the greatest number of eyeballs each year, and hence, preparations are all set for the upcoming season of the IPL.

However, two new variables will be included in this already star-studded equation. Since the next edition of IPL will have 10 teams instead of 8, bidding for the 2 new teams is being looked at keenly. Many names have been thrown in the mix, but the names of Bollywood couple Deepika Padukone – Ranveer Singh, and English football club Manchester United have spiced up the arrangement.

Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone both have a connection to sports, in their own right. While Deepika’s father is Mr. Prakash Padokone, a former badminton champion, Singh is the ambassador for NBA (National Basketball Association).

Adani Group Likely to Own Ahmedabad Team?

Reportedly, other than Padukone, the port-to-airport conglomerate Adani Group is also being rumored to be the bidding front-runner. Further, since there already have been reports of a new team representation Ahmedabad, it is likely that the Adani Group may own the team.

Manchester United, Torrent Pharma and other Bidders

A more fascinating claim has been made by reports which states that Glazer family, that owns Manchester United, will be locking horns with other bidders.

Meanwhile, it’s also being reported that the bidding will see the likes of Torrent Pharma, owned by the Torrent Group take part. Moreover, Aurobindo Pharma will compete in the bidding.

BCCI To Take Home $375-450 Million Per Team

The bidding is all set to take place on October 25, a day after the India VS Pakistan T20 World Cup match. BCCI, the richest cricket board in the world, will earn about $375-450 million per team with a ten-year license. This means that along with the players, and the owners, the biggest winner that will emerge from the bidding will be the BCCI.
