In Delhi, a 54-year-old UP-based peon and his associates allegedly gangraped a class 5 girl. The accused men gave the survivor an injection to leave her unconscious, and took turns in raping the 10-year-old minor. The incident took place at an MCD (Municipal Corporation of Delhi) school and occurred earlier on March 14. The accused in the matter has been identified as Ajay Kumar, hailing from Uttar Pradesh.

Earlier on March 14, Ajay Kumar, a peon who had been working at an MCD school for the past 10 years, asked the survivor to come with him to an isolated location. After giving her an injection that caused her to lose consciousness, Kumar and his accomplices allegedly took turns raping her.

While the girl was unable to provide the police with the exact location of the incident, she did report it to her mother. Shockingly enough, the family didn’t initially report about the incident due to social stigma.

The police were eventually informed by the school principal and other teachers on March 22, and a case was registered under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the  POCSO Act. The MCD officials suspended Kumar with immediate effect and issued showcause notices to the principal and class teacher for failing to take prompt action.

Girl’s Family Didn’t Report Out of Stigma

Shockingly enough, the girl’s family chose not to report the matter out of social stigma, and the girl remained absent from school in the following days. It was only when the teacher reached out to the survivor’s brother and asked why she didn’t take her final exams, that the matter came to the fore.
