In another horrific incident, a airhostess was allegedly raped by a Congress leader earlier on Sunday. The matter came to the fore when the victim locked the accused inside a room & alerted the police. The incident was reported from Mehrauli in South Delhi where the accused came to the survivor’s house in an inebriated state and allegedly raped her. 39-year-old Harjeet Yadav, a Congress block president, was identified as the primary accused in the incident.

As per Chandan Choudhary, Deputy Commissioner of Police, the police received an alert from the survivor herself. A police team was rushed to the place and the accused and survivor were both brought to the police station.

In her statement to the police, the survivor said that she had known the accused for one and a half months. Earlier on Sunday, he came to her house in a drunk state and raped her. The survivor somehow managed to lock the accused inside a room, and alerted the police.

Accused Harjeet Yadav, a Congress block President for Khanpur, has been booked under sections of IPC pertaining to rape, causing hurt, and insult modesty. A further investigation is on in the matter.

The incident comes days after a BJP leader’s son was found guilty of murdering 22-year-old Ankita Bhandari.

The Facts of the Matter

Delhi’s shoddy record in women’s safety is neither unheard nor unknown. The national capital, which was once labelled “rape capital of India”, continues to register a surge in crimes against women. As per NCRB’s data, the national capital saw 14,277 cases of crimes against women in 2021. The number is alarmingly high when compared to cities like Bengaluru and Mumbai, which reported 3,127 and 5,543 cases.

Earlier on Monday, the national capital reported another case of rape against a woman. This time, a 34-year-old airhostess was allegedly raped by a Congress block president. The incident occurred earlier on Sunday and took place at Mehrauli area.

Accused Came to Survivor’s Home Drunk

As per Chandan Choudhary, DCP (South), there was a PCR alert received by Mehrauli police station earlier on Sunday. A team of cops rushed to the spot where the survivor mentioned how the accused came to her house in a drunk state and raped her.

Locking Accused, Calling Police

The accused, identified as Harjeet Yadav, was a recent acquaintance to the survivor and raped her in a drunk state, the police said. Somehow, the victim managed to escape the clutches of the accused, locked him in the same room and called the 112-emergency line.

Accused a Congress Block President in Delhi

The police took both the survivor and accused to the police station. Based on the survivor’s statement, a case has been registered against the accused, who is a block president for Congress from Khanpur area. The sections include, section 376 (rape), section 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), section 509 (act intendent to insult woman’s modesty), section 377 (unnatural offences).

12-Year-Old Boy Sexually Assaulted in Delhi

The news comes just days after a 12-year-old boy was brutally sexually assaulted by a group of three minors in Northeast Delhi earlier last week. The accused had reportedly inserted a rod in the boy’s private parts, and attacked him with bricks and stones.

The boy told his parents about the trauma four days after the incident. The parents immediately informed the Delhi Commission for Women, and the boy was admitted to hospital in “critical condition”.
