In a blood-curdling incident reported from the national capital, a cab driver was arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a 6-year-old girl for a year, while ferrying her to the school. The incident once again sheds light on the ever-occurring incidents of sexual crimes against minors, women and members of minorities in national capital.
The incident came to the fore when the survivor’s mother took to the local police to raise a complaint against the alleged accused. The minor’s mother told the police that her daughter had been feeling “dull” for the last few days. When she took her young daughter into confidence, she opened up about the harrowing acts she was being subjected to for a year.
An Indian Express report quoted DCP Rajesh Deo saying, “On Wednesday, her daughter informed her that the driver of the cab, identified as Md Azhar (30), used to touch her inappropriately while ferrying her from school for the last one year.”
Based on the complaint raised, the cops arrested the accused, and booked him under multiple sections of the IPC and POCSO Act, including Section 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 6 of the POCSO Act.
According to reports, other minors who were being ferried by the accused, are being questioned by the authorities about the driver.
Background
According to the latest report from the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), Delhi, the national capital, was the most unsafe metropolitan city for women in the country last year. Shockingly, two minor girls were raped every day in Delhi in 2021.
The number of crimes against women in Delhi also saw a significant surge of over 40% compared to the previous year, with 13,892 cases recorded. The cases of crimes against women in Delhi accounted for 32.20% of total crimes in the same category among all 19 metropolitan cities.

The Facts of the Matter
Amid the spate of sexual assaults against women and minors in the national capital, Delhi was once again rocked by an enraging incident of minor being subected to sexual abuse and assault.
The most recent incident was reported from Delhi’s Shaheen Bagh area, where a 30-year-old cab driver was arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a 6-year-old girl for a duration of a whole long and tedious year.
Daughter Appeared “Dull” to Mother
According to police, on Wednesday, the survivor’s mother informed the authorities that her daughter had been feeling unwell for a few days, and appeared “dull”.
When asked about her daughter’s condition, the girl confided in her mother that she had been sexually assaulted by someone over the past year. The police have recorded the girl’s statement before a magistrate, where she repeated her allegations of sexual assault against the accused.

Accused Subjected Minor to Horrors for a Whole Year
As per the complaint, the mother had hired the cab driver last year to ferry her daughter to the school. On Wednesday, the girl confided to her mother, and informed her that the 30-year-old cab driver, who was supposed to responsibly take her home from school, inappropriately touched her for the last one year.
Accused Booked, Detailed Investigation On
The accused in the matter has been identified as Md Azhar, a resident of Jait Pur. Azhar was booked under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code and POCSO Act, including Section 376 (rape) and Section 6 (POCSO Act).
A detailed investigation has been initiated in the matter.
